Hi everyone!
Have only posted here once, while really in need of some help and venting, but just came back to discuss a more light-hearted matter. Have been in therapy for about 7 months now and even though my life is still not really going into the right direction, I feel a bit more stable, which is good. I have failed my year of studying psychology, which is a bummer, but considering how I've been feeling this past year, it's no real surprise either. So, together with my parents and my therapist I have decided not to try another study and have a year of gaining some work experience. While it's scary to me what might come, and I'm worrying about the loneliness I might feel, I also feel next year (just realized when I'm talking about year, I mean school year, sorry for not mentioning before) will be a year of real personal growth. So right now I have nothing going on really, no real plans to look forward to, just looking for jobs (not really worrying about this, I usually find okay jobs). But all my house mates are gone, busy, doing cool summer stuff and everyone is on holidays, so I'm starting to feel a bit lonely. And I'm longing for some vacation, to get out of the room where I've been isolating myself for the past year and see some of the world. Bottom line is, I just want to get away. I bet most people will know this feeling ![]() And I was wondering maybe this community could help me out in trying to find some ideas for vacation. Whenever I think of holidays, it usually relaxes me, so you might gain some relaxation out of helping me as well ![]() I'll firstly say I'm a flexible person when it comes to travelling and vacation, willing to try new things and curious, open to new experiences, looking for adventure, but also needs to be alone at times, prefers to travel alone and cannot be in a dangerous environment for too long (I'm thinking wild camping, that wouldn't really work haha) needs a place to recharge and be at ease. So, I'm 21 years old ex-student, living in Europe, the Netherlands. I'm looking for one or two weeks to go to another country in Europe, which is a fairly easy thing to do in Europe, as long as you have a passport which I do. I have my driver's license, but not a car. I don't intend to spend much money, even though I have some savings of which I'm willing to grab some, but not really eager to, I'd rather they stay on my bank account. To travel freely would be ideal (I'm open to go on a hitchhiking trip), but I love travelling by train as well, so I'm willing to pay for that. I was thinking of doing some farm work or some other form of volunteering, to really get a free holiday. But if you know a cheap way to relax and sit-back and just do nothing, I'm all ears! I might forget some important information here that you need to know in order to give me tips or advice. If this is the case, please ask away, I'd be happy to give you all the information you need! I'm just giving some general information here. Thanks in advance and have a great summer everyone! ![]() |

If you are in The Netherlands then you can easily take a train to Germany, maybe go down the Romantik Strasse , visit the nice town and enjoy the scenery in the Neckar valley for ex, go all the way into the Schwarzwald region, see some cute villages, wander in the forest, etc. You could also go into France ,from the west of Germany, maybe go to Colmar, Strasbourg and even all the way up to Normandy(I did that by train, from Frankfurt, almost 4hrs to Paris then the TGV to the coast. Or you could try going to Umbria, which is beautiful and cheaper than the Provence or Tuscany but with a similar air. There is public transport, particularly between the major places, like Spoleto, and u could rent a car to go into the national park east of Spoleto, where there are some very nice places.I am guessing there should be cheaper accomodations , such as guesthouses , in all these regions , along with special train fares, like the land ticket in Germany and maybe cheaper buses or hitchhiking possibilities. If you have some particular places or countries you'd like to go to, please do mention them.

Many, many, many years ago there was a train pass avaiable for students to travel in Europe. I think it was called Eurail? Does something like that still exist? If so you could travel around the EU stopping where you wanted for a few days.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do remember friends of mine making a Eurorail trip, though I'm not sure that's still possible. I'll check it out though, definitely a good suggestion!
@Lonelyheart22: Thanks for your suggestions! France and Germany are definitely great places to explore. Have been on much vacations to France with my parents already, but there's still much to see I think. I'm thinking going to Scandinavia might be fun. |

Try Albania. Seriously. It's cheap, it is pretty safe and landscapes are nice and cities are nice mix of old and new... and you can hitchhike. Especially in the south it's easy...
If that is too adventurous... try Central Europe. Will be cheap to you. And the cities are really beautiful.

You could technically hitchhike cross country US. Go with gut, but most aren't dangerous monsters.
I hitched once as a teen...firefighter actually, caught a ride home... Sent from my LGMS323 using Tapatalk |
