How would you describe the taste of clean water to someone who has never had clean drinking water or water ever!? Hardest question ever for me to answer.

And don't say it has no taste, that doesn't help me.

Tastes like chicken! Having no flavor of its own is not invalid? I guess the closest word I can think of is "bland", like unflavored gelatin. I remember being in the hosptial on drip antibiotics all week and finally, the day before I was getting out they let me choose what to eat and I chose the orange "jello" and started drooling only it turned out to be orange colored gelatin, not jello, no sugar, flavor, nothing.

Hard one - good quality water does have a flavor, or maybe lack of. But enough to differentiate - for example, I love Dasani, Aquafina not so much.

My well water is sweet compared to treated city water.

I was so going to say "wet" but that wouldn't be helpful..

Clean water tastes pure, basic, refreshing

We take clean water for granted in America, it's not that way in a lot of the world

Your very good question is similar to a point I like to make, which is; "Water is wet...but that's useless knowledge until you experience it by diving into a mountain stream, or walk in the rain, or sip a cool drink on a hot day".

Our purpose in life isn't simply to "know" things, but to experience them. Not everything can be adequately described with language, so we should live and experience as much as we can.

Mine is well water, so it is crisp and sweet and mineral-like, not metallic, but mineral-like. It most definitely has a flavor.

Water kind of has that bitter-sweet taste to it.

Has anyone else noticed that temperature changes the flavor of water?
Thanks for this!

I have a well and the water tastes nasty! The taste of sulfer and iron is overpowering! The iron is so bad it has stained all the white sinks, shower, tub, etc.

The place we lived before this the well water was actually sweet. People who came to visit would ask for a glass of water because it tasted so good.

I think a nice glass of cold clean water when you're super thirsty tastes slightly sweet. Not sweet enough to call it sweet but enough for your senses to taste it as sweet. That with a side taste of like dirt/air/nature in as good of a way as you can think it haha. I really like water but thats the only way I can describe it.

I've had some water that taste like an iron fork - gross!

Actually, pure water....distilled water, devoid of impurities, minerals and metals, is utterly tasteless. Any flavor comes from dissolved contaminates.

So, add some bourbon and ice ;-)

I think most well water is nasty, too. A lot of people say it taste better, but I find the taste to be bitter. Yeah, the taste of iron in it is horrible and overpowering.

Describing the taste of water is hard. I never understood how some people think it doesn't have a taste, or that it all taste the same. It does not.

Bottled water has a somewhat salty taste. Tap water tends to have a more pure taste. I'm honestly not sure the English language has a word to describe the taste yet.

There are times when our tap water tastes like chlorine.....the filter in my refrig takes out that taste. I think the true non-flavor of water truly comes out as it warms up.

For me, I like tons of ice in my water & I gulp it down so fast I don't think my taste buds even get a chance to know if there is a flavor or not.

However, when I was pregnant, we took a cross country trip taking my parents back to my Dad's home town.....& his aunt & uncle's farm. The well water for the house was sunk through sulfer....& the flavor was so bad it was constantly making me sick (on top of being pregnant). I could only drink it if it was made into tea & with tons of ice......while the well for the cattle was perfect & pure........cost of running pipes from the good well to the house was way too costly....how sad.

Interesting where I live now they have water tanks that hold the water that goes out into the community.....they didn't have anything like that in California.....but don't think that makes any difference in the non-flavor, or the chemicals they put into the water.......it was really bad after the ice storm in 2008.....when lots of pipes burst.....they had to extra purify the water & it tasted horrible for a long time.

Refreshing, clean, sparkling, pure, satisfying.

In India, good drinking water is called "sweet water." I guess it's kinda sweet compared to a lot of nasty foul and metallic or hard water.
