inspired by "shorts" thread somewhere else on PC

Lot of people defend wear short shorts or skirts by "it's hot". But I personally feel better covered up. Not that I really have body image (asides of worrying my pale skin will burst in flames if exposed to too much sun), but it's just habit I aquired through years.

Somebody joked about my dressing as muslim woman...

i mean... I we stuff like this

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...66926231_n.jpg on most days (and apparently, coreving up gets more attention that not wearing too much clothes... )

(I do own short skirts and dresses, but as I said, I prefer to be wrapped up in colorful fabrics).

VenusHalley,

Thank you for this.
Many women of senior years on the gulf coast USA choose to wisely wear long sleeves, longer skirts and/or leggings or pants in summertime. Why?

For many of us, we are simply cooler keeping the humidity off direct contact with our skin.
Innate wisdom.
Secondly, because our dermatologists recommend same if we wish to avoid overexposure to sun and increasing risks of skin cancer. Simple clear medical advice.

Those women in other cultures and vastly differing climates have traditionally been so covered for reasons of simple wisdom (stay out of the sun) as well as cultural and religious norms. Princess is betting that simple wisdom came first long ago in hot, sunny, desert climes.
Thanks for this!

I wear whatever's clean, lol.

Generally Bermudas or capris with short sleeved or 3/4 length sleeved top. Lots of cotton. Maybe next year, by when I hope to be 50 pounds less, I'll wear some sleeveless shirts. But still no skirts or short shorts.

Though, the idea of wearing lots of colorful fabric also sounds nice.

Leggings?? In the summer? Isnt that hot hot hot???

I spent my younger years inside - i went to summer school during high school and college, then started working full time, never went to the Carribean - so they say it takes 40 years for these skin cancers to grow and kill ya. Given that i finally learned to swim when i was 50, i figure ill be dead one way or another by 90!
Thanks for this!

shorts at least mid thigh or knee length and T-shirts, But I also like to wear maxi-dresses that go down to my ankles, but are sleeveless. I do have some fun short, flirty dresses for when I'm feeling playful.

I don't wear shorts or above the knee skirts period. I am majorly bowlegged from ridning horses most of my life. Add to that I have scars on my legs. I'm not comfortable going in public with my legs showing.

Now, here around the farm? This time of year when the temps are in the 90s I wear a sports bra and shorts for outside work. Yeah, yeah, I know I'm risking skin cancer exposing that much skin to the sun. I figure after working outside for most of my adult life I'm doomed anyway. I might as well be comfortable.

If we are talking work attire... the agency I work for has a dress code year 'round so I have to follow those guidelines. I do scale down to slightly more casual at work over the summer i.e. a polo shirt instead of a buttondown longsleeve shirt.

Our weather has been brutally hot since early spring. This week is actually in the 90's, so bearable. What do I wear? T-shirts or halter tops and skirts or leggings. Flip-flops or sandals on my feet, except when I work (cafe). Then I wear running shoes.

Jeans and tee. I live in jeans year round. Never anything shorter than halfway up my shin because of my scars.

I do, wear the short shorts, tank tops, have a few dresses for summertime, long hemlines, couple short length skirts. No capris for me, but wear jeans, cuffed up. Short sleeves, and i have one pair of shorts, just at/below knees. I swelter, living without air conditioning, top floor and humidity. Flip flops or tretorns or converse. Couple open toed heels...I like to mix it up, a bit.

Well, summer's already gone here and we're on winter, so good old flannel for me On summer, well, indoors, just my boxers, and outdoors, my plain tees and jeans.

Usually capris. I don't wear shorts much anymore out personal preference; just getting too old to show that much leg anymore. Sometimes a sundress/maxi-dress. Always sandals.
Thanks for this!

I usually were shorts or capris and t-shirts. But I mostly stay inside all summer. I can't take the Texas heat.

Underwear around the house. I'm a recluse. Jeans and a t-shirt in public.

VenusHalley -

PoorPrincess thought of you today. As I was contemplating 'how to dress' to hike down into town on a mostly-sunny at present day.

I truly haven't much in the way of wardrobe/clothing choices with me here in the NW.
Mostly winter clothing that can double for year round wear sans the layers.

Being a sunny day on the coast, I typically cover up from sun exposure as much as possible.
Not a problem until the question of head and neck covering. No sun hat have I here.
Thus perhaps like VenusHalley, I wrapped a scarf around my head and neck, accomplishing my purpose. Whether people would think I looked perhaps like an Arab woman, surely the blue jeans and workout jacket should say otherwise? LOL.

Just odd, funny thoughts along the way of ordinary life ... And thinking of you.

I wear something like the wasteland wanderer outfit from fallout 3.

what is your summer attire?

Lightweight linen cargo pants, light weight t shirt or short sleeved rash guard (like a tshirt made of something like women's bathing suit material, some claim to be spf 100 (I don't surf)), and a light weight hoodie. I never wear sandals or have bare legs in public even though that's the norm where I live.

In the winter I wear pretty much the same outfit made out of heavier materials.

I'm a tiny adult, I get my clothes in the kids sections but they're cheaper so whatever.

Hmmmmm.....when I'm working around my farm....mowing & weeding & hiking in my woods.....I wear knee high rubber boots with 2 pairs of socks & long pants......t-shirt with a long sleeved shirt on top.....& a ton of bug spray because the ciggars & spiders are hell on me....& I have had so many bites other years (100+ at a time) that it's actually made me physically ill.....so I have become overcautious about making sure I cover up.....also wear a huge brimmed hat to keep the sun off my face.

When I go out during the day....casual or more formal....it's either in shorts just above my knee with a t-shirt in some sort of matching color print......or capri's with some sort of shirt or t-shirt that matches in color. Heat & humidity can be bad here....but this year.....we had a low last week of 65F on Friday......definitely NOT a normal summer temp.

When I go grocery shopping I always take a long sleeved shirt or jacket because the freezer sections are so cold my hands go numb.

I had ACL knee reconstruction back in the late 80's before they did it arthroscopically....so I have a huge scar up the side of my knee....so I really don't like to wear shorts out in public....but am getting less uncomfortable about that....& there are some times when I need to make it into town so I just throw some sandles (berkinstocks preferably), jump into my huge truck & run the errand that I need to get accomplished......

I also don't use my A/C in my home unless it gets almost 100F so around the house I wear shorts & anything cotton.....but if I do much work in the heat & humidity....I end up jumping into the shower & put on another set of dry cloths.....can't stand the feeling of cloths that are ringing wet.

Also when I ride horses, I wear long pants & boots & long sleeved shirt or t-shirt on a real hot day....but I hate getting bug spray on my skin so would rather spray it onto my cloths than onto my skin.
