well <insert profane words of your choice>

I just now broke a tooth eating a chicken strip. Most of it broke down to the gum line so I don't know if my regular dentist can remove the tooth or if I will have to see an oral surgeon. crap

Yoda, do you remember my dental saga a year and a half ago? You have my complete and utter sympathy! Literally been there and done that.
Thanks for this!

I remember. You had a tough time then.

My mom celebrates her 80th birthday tomorrow and we are going to a steakhouse. Bad timing for my tooth.

I saw the dentist two weeks ago and it was abscessed then and hurting so he gave me antibiotics and I took Lortabs left over from when I injured my knee this summer. The good part (if there is a good part to this) is that it isn't hurting.

Ugh, teeth are the worst! I live in fear of something going wrong with my teeth and experiencing that god awful, blinding pain I've felt before.

Sorry your tooth broke. Hope the process of getting it fixed isn't too bad.

I was telling my wife the other night, why couldn't we have evolved so that if a tooth became damaged or infected the body could just push the bad tooth out and regrow a new one. Man, that'd be nice.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, Mikeyboy, like snakes. They have virtually unlimited teeth/fangs.

My dentist took an xray when I was there last month and I thought the roots looked shallow so I am really, really hoping he can expand the gum enough to pull it without having to have oral surgery.

Yoda, I had to have surgery to remove a broken tooth. It was easy-peasy. They loaded me up with enough Valium to knock out a horse. I didn't care what the heck they did in my mouth!

The real irony is that it was cheaper than the fillings I got!
Thanks for this!

I'd rather have just a local anesthetic if possible because I have to drive my son to/from work. The office is just a couple miles from home so I think I'll just stop by in the morning and ask if he will look at it and schedule me for the extraction or refer me to an oral surgeon. Best case scenario he will say let's do it now.

Sympathetic wishes. Two of mine broke recently. I had absolutely zero tooth decay last time I had a real checkup in 2007 and now this will be the second problem recently. What are we doing wrong? Good luck and yes, no pain is a good thing!
Thanks for this!

I know what I am doing wrong. I don't floss and because I have no dental insurance I don't get regular cleanings or dental treatment.

Instead of flossing I brushed my teeth and used Listerine because of the advertisement that Listerine "can penetrate biofilms [plaque], kill germs and protect your mouth for up to twelve hours". I thought when I felt the alcohol burning it was killing germs, which I am certain it was killing the superficial ones but it does NOT penetrate plaque and there is/was a class action lawsuit against Listerine because of their misleading advertisement.

Since I was treated by a dental student a couple of years ago who spoke about flossing I started flossing but it was too late, the damage was done. If I had money I would get implants.

Oh yeah... flossing is very important. When I skip for a while I start getting tooth and gum pain. I skipped too long once and had to have some kind of scraping procedure. Had insurance then.

Because you can't?
Anything new with the tooth? My two aren't hurting but I have lots of tooth, jaw, and facial pain. Not sure what that is from.
Good luck!
