I just wanted to share a short perspective that I have noticed over the years....

It's my birthday tomorrow and though I am not that old. I am getting older. I have noticed things in me that are mature and some not...

I remember when birthday parties were the trend for birthdays and of course cake and ice cream. I remember party hats and silly string (not sure what year that came to be).....I remember receiving a card in the mail from Nana with $5 dollars in it. (A lot then). Now she is gone. I remember counting down the calendar until my birthday. It was so exciting to be another year older. Another year closer to being 16 so I could drive or 18 so I could be an adult (at least legally). And another year closer to being 21 so I could drink (at least legally). 22 so I could be done with college and maybe 24 so I could be married. 26 so I could finally be a mother. Birthdays were a big deal then.

Now, there is no trend to have a birthday party. I'm very happy to just get a phone call from someone on my birthday or any other day for that matter. A card is not even expected now. Of course not from Nana (God bless her beautiful soul). I'm so thankful to have just another day much less another year. I don't count down my calendar anymore. (that got old after 21). I'm thankful that I am healthy every day much less another year. I'm thankful to go out to lunch or dinner with a friend occasionally. I'm thankful that I still have a good mind to remember those birthday parties....

I'm now thankful for such the smallest things. I think I am getting older. The leaves are changing and there are pumpkins at the stores. There is a Fall smell in the air and the kids are back in school. Ah......that's right it's time for another birthday.

I put a notice in the local paper stating that I had cancelled any further birthdays so I would remain 30 forever. That was 23 years ago.

I look awful for a 30 year old now!

Happy Birthday SideBlinded !

Many happy returns - what you say is true, we might not celebrate things like birthdays in the same way but we appreciate the little things all the more. It's funny isn't it?

Aging can be fun if you lay back and enjoy it. Clint Eastwood - I think that's what he said. It was something like that. Seems like you are thinking like a rich man, rich in wisdom that is!

Happy birthday, enjoy the day and thank you for this posing.

October's a good month to have a birthday. October is a colorful time of the year. I feel bad for those people born in December, January. Happy birthday and many more.

(BTW, the older you get the more you appreciate what you learned in Kindergarten.)

(And yes, cool09, no one ever remembers December birthdays---all too busy with Christmas. I know. I am one of them.)

However, because I am older and wiser now, and essentially don't count birthdays anymore, I am okay with it....

Yes! Age brings wisdom (hopefully), and a different perspective on practically everything.

Happy belated birthday, you had a beautiful post. My grandma passed too, she used to send me a card every year with some money in it. The money was not required just the love she had for me to remember every year was enough. I miss my grandma especially since I didn't appreciate her enough.

But I hope you had a wonderful birthday

I think that getting older has been a relief. I finally have found a way to manage things and am pretty comfortable with who I am and where I"m at. so in some respects, for me, getting older has been more of a good thing than something negative or bad.

Hope you had a VERY nice birthday, SIDEBLINDED. I agree with everything you said. We old people have learned to appreciate many things we were too foolish to appreciate at a younger age.

Happy Birthday Sideblinded!

I understand everything you wrote. I am getting older too (although not my birthday yet).

It gives you pause to think about it, doesn't it?

In my case, I feel there has been so much waste in my life. Wouldn't it be great if we could impart to other people how precious life is, and not to waste it on anything?

(I think so anyway)

Hope your birthday was a good one!
Thanks for this!
