Remember word problems in math from school? I'm good at math and still hated the dang things! This for those of us who hated the nasty things!

You must have learned math with the modern math skills...LOL.

Oh Yes, Lizard Lady.....that's exactly what those word problems looked like to me also.....who would have ever thunk that I would end up being a firmware design engineer, reading the Marine's descriptions of what they wanted their system to work like & then design & program it when I was so horrible at word problems (& calculus).

Word problems were never much of a problem for me, which is real good because nearly all the problems in my engineering classes were some kind of word problem.

Haha eskie what is "modern" maths I think I used the abacus back in my day jk jk

I'd love to google how ancient that one is cos that abacus has been around for zonks.

Citation is maybe needed here but Wikipedia states - abaci is the plural form of abacus really I didn't know that . Must be true I guess.

Okay what other words have the plural of "i". Here's one - radius is radii in the plural form but since I'm so off topic let me google another word problem related to maths joke for you lizard lady.

Here's one:

Okay I really like this joke the best from Business Insider Australia -

13 Jokes That Every Maths Geek Will Find Absolutely Hilarious:

JOKE #8

A physicist, a biologist, and a mathematician are sitting on a bench across from a house. They watch as two people go into the house, and then a little later, three people walk out.

The physicist says, “The initial measurement was incorrect.”

The biologist says, “They must have reproduced.”

And the mathematician says, “If exactly one person enters that house, it will be empty.”

PS: That picture is really funny of the portrayed "Maths Geek".

PPS: lizard lady thanks heaps for this awesome thread

This is a very simple applied mathematics problem: A man is driving a truck on a road with an approaching overpass that has a 12' clearance. Unfortunately for the driver the truck has a height of 12' and gets stuck under the overpass. What is the most practical way of freeing the truck?

Let some air out of the tires to lower the height of the truck.

Here's another one that I think is fairly easy: You're running in a marathon and you pass the person in second place. What place are you in?

Yes, that is easy.....you take over 2nd place position. First is still ahead.

I remember a test that really tested your ability to follow directions.....

First thing the test said was read everything before starting to answer the test......the last statement on the test said don't answer any of the questions & just turn in the paper.......how many people answered all the questions before they read the final statement?????....it was at least 3/4 of the class.

I always had the engineer mentality....read the instructions only if you can't figure it out by doing it....I'm really not good with instructions though I have learned to skim first through the years.
