I have an interview tomorrow morning (Wed) at Toronto's Distress Centre for their telephone support line. I'm really excited about it. I used to volunteer on another line until it was closed.

I interviewed with the distress Centre 2 years ago, and was told I'd be a good candidate, but they wouldn't take me, because I'd been in a psych hospital in the preceding 2 years. So I've been waiting out the 2 year period.

I really hope that I get accepted and that the training schedule doesn't conflict with school, otherwise I'll have to wait for their next intake of volunteers.

Keep your fingers crossed for me please.

Thanks everyone,

My interview was a little weird, but mostly went ok. She didn't ask me that many questions, mostly because I'd been thoroughly interviewed 2 years ago, plus had filled out an all new application. She mostly wanted to talk about my treatment, supports, coping strategies, and recovery since my last suicide attempt. This would be totally illegal in a job interview context, but they have to be sure that the volunteers have the emotional resources to handle a variety of intense calls. Strangely I was ok telling her about what's been going on with me. It's like I think I've finally reached the point, where I'm - OK, this is me.

She didn't say it, but she kind of implied that I'd probably be accepted pending reference checks. But I wouldn't be able to start right away, as the training starts in April, and is a weeknight, which conflicts with my classes, so she said that they'd just put my file in for the next group that would start in June or July. That's fine with me. I didn't want to do it, while I was in school anyways.

Thanks for the update splitimage.

Glad the interview mostly went okay albeit a little "weird" in some parts.
