Boston Molasses Disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
The Boston Molasses Disaster, also known as the Great Molasses Flood and the Great Boston Molasses Flood, occurred on January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. A large molasses storage tank burst, and a wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (56 km/h), killing 21 and injuring 150. The event has entered local folklore, and for decades afterward residents claimed that on hot summer days the area still smelled of molasses.[1]
Thanks for this!

I don't remember where I first heard of it, but I know that one. It was one of the first great industrial disaster in this industrial age, wasn't it? I could be wrong.

Stay safe everyone.

I don't even remember how I stumbled on that but it was a while back and its stuck with me. I guess it's just the molasses. That is so surreal. It must have been horrible to be stuck in that stuff.

I've actually heard of that one too. I don't remember where it was, but there was a similar one with ale. They had built gigantic barrels and one of the rings on one slipped.
