That's right I am taking a trip to Copenhagen land of Hans Christian Anderson and others. Why Copenhagen - seems like a nice place. To tell you the truth there is a lot of weird stuff spinning around in my head as to why I'm traveling. Mostly it feels like I'm running away from the empty space that I live in. But running to where and for what - a lot of questions. Somewhere deep in the twisted little psyche I think I'm trying to give life to the ghost I've become - I'll go somewhere faraway and they'll miss me. But who is they - a group of acquaintances I know. Me thinks I give them too much credit - they will not know I'm even gone. I always have traveled alone - it's easy until you return and realize nobody even knew you were gone. Not a good feeling - I don't even want to discuss not having anybody to send a postcard to. Last trip I took I did run into other solo travelers - I of course wanted to handcuff them to my wrist and drag them around with me. But it usually ended up being a brief encounter and I turned and walked down the alley alone. So the preflight tension has set in - I feel like grasshopper wandering the earth trying to find myself and anybody who will listen. Peace.
Thanks for this!

How exciting!!! A trip to Copenhagen, sounds glorious. I love to travel alone, too. If it weren't for finances I would love to take a trip up the northeastern coast of America and into Canada. I won't to go along so I can experience it on my own without having to worry about what others want to do. Being missed. I guess my husband would miss me, but other than that I doubt anyone one else would.

Yeah this is my fourth trip to Europe in the last two years. I'm pretty amazed that I can get up the nerve to go. I agree that traveling alone rocks - although the loneliness can grind on you. But I'm pretty much alone everywhere I go so what difference does it make. The thing Is the people over there are great - I don't think I've ever had a bad conversational experience. Sometimes you run into Americans and it sort becomes a surreal experience like what are you doing here? As I get older I get more concerned about getting lost or something crazy like that - but somebody told me once that getting lost is fun. There are so many places to go - times wasting away get out there.

I've been to London. Amersterdam, Brugges Belgium, Florence and most of Tuscany. Getting there is the hard part - my body ain't what it used to be and the seats are killers! I like the smaller cities because they're easier to navigate. Florence was amazing - a lot of Gelato however. I get nervous by myself because I'm always thinking what I something happens nobody really knows where I am. Paranoia has a way of ruining your trip if you dwell on it.

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Friendly old girl of a town
'Neath her tavern light
On this merry night
Let us clink and drink one down
To wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Salty old queen of the sea
Once I sailed away
But I'm home today
Singing Copenhagen, wonderful, wonderful
Copenhagen for me

I sailed up the Skagerrak
And sailed down the Kattegat
Through the harbour and up to the quay
And there she stands waiting for me
With a welcome so warm and so gay
Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen

Sounds like a lovely trip.....alone is good, but I always love to share the "ohhhhh look at that" sort of stuff.

Though when I went to Rome with my H when we were first married back in 1976 on a business trip, I got to enjoy wandering around Rome totally alone for 5 weeks. Interesting because I knew my way around there better than the valley I grew up in. I do like running into interesting locals also because they really give you the scoop of what's going on & where to visit & where the best food it.

Oh yes, Italian Gelato....NOTHING LIKE IT!!!!

Enjoy your trip & bring back some interesting experiences & photos

I love Bruges. Did you go to Bruges Bertje. If you did you'll know it's a tiny bar but is supposed to stock the most Belgian ales in the world. Also Brussels is great. Belgium is great. It has a undeserved reputation for being boring but it isn't at all.
Have you looked on meetup.com for trips abroad. There is one I'm thinking of doing that gives you free accommodation and food in return for speaking English to their Spanish clients. They have various centres in Spain. I can talk the hind legs off a donkey so no probs. You just have to keep the conversation flowing.
Enjoy your trip.
