Ok, so here's the jist. Me and my Fiance were going to wait to get married after he gets his new Managorial job at his work. We were planning on December 25th, 2017 as it says in my signature. But me and him decided we will do the real wedding now and a vow renewal in Disney World where we will have our big wedding. So, we will be doing a handfasting because me and him are both of basically the same faith. He is Pagan and I am Wiccan. And we want to celebrate our wedding in a special way. And we want to do it as close to Samhain as possible. And since I can't announce our wedding on my Facebook status for a year and a half I thought I would do it here. We will be using traditional vows. And will be jumping over a broom at the end. I wish it was a big handfasting because I might invite you all to it just for fun. I really wouldn't do that I'm just joking. Anyways, so that's what I have to say.

How exciting!

Why do you jump over a broom? Is that a cultural thing or something?

Congrats to you & your fiance, Angel. My husband (who is also my best friend & twin flame) & I met in July 1997 & became engaged within a few months. We had plans to marry in July 1999. On Jan 9, 1999 things just fell into place & we went up to Reno. It was just us & the officiator. We've been together 18 years. I wasn't interested in a big wedding. It mattered more to me who I married. Something small at first & a bigger celebration later sounds like a good idea. I hope the two of you have a long & loving union.

It's a Wiccan tradition in a Pagan wedding.

for those asking about broom jumping. its actually from the african american slave culture. slaves were not allowed to marry so they would jump over a broom lodged in a door frame going on into the home, in front of friends to symbolize their love and wanting to be together. to break up their un marriaged union slaves would jump backwards over the broom going out the door.

in pegan weddings it symbolizes not marriage but whether or not the marriage will last, if the broom set at jumping over height gets knocked down it is said that the marriage will not last. it is also symbolizes enslavement of the woman to the man. (like in most weddings theres the statement that the woman would repeat after the pastor...will you obey ...)

in some cultures jumping over a high placed broom has a history of being a witch detector (if a woman knocked over the broom they were designated a witch and burned at the stake)

because of civil rights and such and what negativity that jumping over a broom symbolizes (enslavement, witch trails, ...) most cultures no longer use this.
Thanks for this!
