I've been on Pinterest looking at DIY/arts and crafts ideas for my new apartment and I came across "engineering blueprints". For $1.99 at Staples you can get an 18"x24" poster of a black and white photo! Up close it's a bit grainy and blurry, but just a few steps back and it looks like a professional photo! I got this done today and I am very pleased with it:

Calling all DIYers!

If anyone has any other DIY/arts and crafts ideas for an apartment, let me know!

Thanks Hooligan! I saw the idea and then rummaged through old photos. I found four of them but this was the best in black and white. It looks SO cool framed on my wall.

Correction: I was 7 1/2 in the photo, my brother was 5 1/2, and my late dog Sarge was 7 months. I just found out by looking at the back of the photo where my mom wrote down our ages, like all mothers do with precious photos xD

What I'd like to do is have my boyfriend pick out his favorite photo when he was little and frame it, and then have a recent photo of me and my boyfriend together and frame it.

Oh wow what an awesome thing to do - I don't personally have any photos of myself when I was growing up but I'm sure I could track some relatives who can scan and email me copies!

Actually you know it's a great idea for Christmas and Birthday gifts too!

Lark, you could check out your local craft stores like Micheal's. They have DIY craft classes for very low cost. I've also seen DIY craft idea books at the library. You could flip through those looking for ideas. The library also has books about "repurposing" things.

Some other ideas....

Craft stores (and some Wal-Marts) have unfinished wood things like shelves, crates, stools that you can decorate the way you want.

I've gotten some great stuff to decorate the house at thrift shops like Goodwill. I have a gorgeous brass plant holder that I use to store kindling next to the fireplace I picked up for a couple of bucks at Goodwill.

I used to knit, don't have time anymore. You can knit or crochet things to decorate the house. They are not only nice to look at, but practical.

That's all I can think of right now.
Thanks for this!

You would probably like Threadbangers. It's a DIY channel on youtube. Awesome and fun.
