I get them by the case Usually a pic of a child with cancer needing "likes" or a pic of Jesus image in clouds or something like. Sometimes pics of a pile of 100 dollar bills telling you to like and share and that money will find its way to you.
Just an FYI... Almost all are bogus. They are posted by attention *****s and advertisers.
Just one example:

Thanks for this!

Arrgh! That's mainly why I axed my Facebook account last winter. I was depressed, and finally just couldn't take any more annoying stuff like that. I spent lots of time with the Facebook controls trying to hide content from the people who tended to share that kind of thing, too, but it never seemed to work really well.

There are about five people I miss having contact with on Facebook, so I've been considering starting a new account. Or I was until I read your post.

It has gotten really bad over the last couple of months - especially with political items in the newsfeed. I live in Canada and I get 'papered' with stuff about US politics. I block them and then yet another shows up. What I really hate - and worry about - is when moms post pictures of their children with personal information.

Never had Facebook.....that's one of the reasons. I always fear some kind of a virus will kill my computer. That and the the ten thousand pics of happy people that will kill me(sarcastic)

Never had FB, never will. Or Tweedle or Instaface or Webagram or any of that other crap. This site, LinkedIn and that's it.

FB does have its good points. And you who know me know I'm a born crusader against oppressors, con men, grifters, and PR men/women... and besides, god knows FB needs another crusader

Do people really believe that stuff? Seriously? Its just like a chain letter?? You have to be pretty slow to believe what you read on the internet.

I don't get too much of it. There are a few "suggested posts" but I just scroll on by. As I do with any religious stuff and pure spam / con stuff. But mostly, I get stuff from the few friends that I have and the few places that I have liked. Next month I've been on FB a year and it has been a positive experience for me. Plus I have found out newsy things that I might not of known otherwise. (Like when my favourite author has a new book out).

I stay on FB to stay in touch with long distance friends and see what they are doing. I also subscribe to feeds of groups and things I DO have an interest in.

Another thing irritates me though. My ex husband keeps tagging my adult children in posts so, even though we are obviously not friends, I keep seeing what he is doing.

Lastly, we are amidst an election in Canada and unfortunately it has come down to a war of vindiictive fear mongering and hate. I have been shocked by the racist, religiously intolerant, anti immigrant, Islamaphobic views of people I thought were close friends. During this campaign I've whittled down my friends list.

The cancer or Jesus ones are obnoxious. Jesus doesn't even have a fb yo! And me "liking" this pic of a child with cancer is not going to help anyone.

I can handle a few religious posts but I understand. My family is religious. Some people rely on their religious beliefs to get them through life. I understand that although I am not a believer myself. The ones with pics of sick children asking for likes ... they truly are disgusting. Not the children themselves. I don't know that any of them are even aware their pic is being used. What disgusts me is that when I manage to sift back through all the shares and likes and find the original poster, their page contains similar posts they've made. I don't know what they get out of this. Maybe some satisfaction in seeing the number of likes and shares listed on their page? Maybe just laughing at all the people they've fooled. I haven't found any that seemed to have a connection to the kids.
It's just something I was curious about.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
