I just realized this week that I typically only get 5 or 6 hours of sleep. I think sometimes I'm confusing depression with exhaustion from lack of sleep.

I understand. Sleep is a big issue for me also. 6 hours would be a good night.
I wish I could sleep 7 or 8 hours a night but it just never happens. You are right about the confusion. When you are tired its tough to know whats going on with your body or your mind.

Depression can cause insomnia.
Whatever is going on, 5 or 6 hours of sleep isn't enough. Blah. |

If you have anxious thoughts at night.. it's hard to shut the brain down.

Have you tried OTC meds? Or a benzo PRN? I take seroquel for sleep. In the past ten years, I havn't slept once without a little help. I've turned to everything from vitamins to booze!

I remember learning how some people are able to get only 6 hours of sleep, but that's mostly due to genetics.
In this world, it can be really hard to get enough sleep for numerous reasons, especially in college students and people who have competitive jobs. I think not getting enough sleep can be seen as something to proud of by some people. If you only get like 5 hours of sleep because you were working on some project, people might think that you're a hard worker. Unfortunately, not getting enough sleep can adversely affect your health, and some people can't get enough sleep because of mental or physical illness. I dunno. Sleep is hard to get a lot of times and I hope that you'll be able to get enough someday. |

I am considerably less depressed on a full night's sleep. It has been the case for me, that exhaustion can sometimes be confused with depression. And also that depression can make it difficult to sleep.

not enough sleep use to be a torture treatment for soldiers sometimes in war times in the 1900's. I need at least 8 to 12 hours of sleep as i have sleep apnea and sleep with a machine, but it does seem to help in the daytime but i must have at least 8 hours of sleep. needless to say i don't have a job i'm disabled from mental illness too. I just take my regular clozapine at night and usually can sleep but have nights where i can't sleep and stay up until morning. i think it would be considered insomnia on those nights. i wish everyone good sleep habits.
