It's almost Halloween so I want to know if you guys believe in ghosts and if you've ever experienced one?

What brought me to think of this is we just buried my dads cat. And my dad does not believe in ghosts and definitely not animal ghosts. Well he swore he heard the floor creaking and when he came out of his room, he saw her outline cross the hallway and she disappeared. There's no other animals in the house. So who knows, maybe he was sleep walking but he swears it happened twice. Yikes.

Feel free to share your stories
Thanks for this!

Good time for this topic! I have never experienced the presence of anything that I thought was paranormal.

I have been in places that seemed to have a "feeling" to them - very old places, usually - some pyramids in Mexico that I visited particularly come to mind. It was just a feeling, though. It didn't seem to be any sort of presence.

Was your dad comforted by what he saw or did he find it scary?

Yeah, I would like that. If it was my cat, I mean. Not if it was a human.

I remember when I was a lot younger, I had this pet hamster that died partly due to neglect... basically he'd chewed through one of the rungs on his ladder then got his head trapped in it. I didn't check him that often so by the time I found him there, he was dead. I felt pretty guilty.

Anyway, we cleaned the cage out etc. but left it in my room. One night when I was struggling to get to sleep I heard a noise like someone running their finger down the metal frame of the cage. "brrrriiing"

I was convinced it was the hamster haunting me because I could have saved him. Needless to say I moved the cage away & never heard it again.

To this day, I've no idea what could have caused the sound. I was prone to sleep paralysis then which can cause hallucinations but still, I'll always think it was the hamster.

I have been in places where I have felt positivity and negativity, but I will share one experience...

Years ago when I was house hunting I waited outside one beautiful old character home (100yrs oled) for my realter to show up. She never did. But while I stood waiting for her I looked up and out of the attic window were waving 3 young children. I waved back. I knocked on the door and there was no answer - despite my being sure someone was home. Later that day, when I finally hooked up with my realter I told her that someonelse must have been viewing the home and what I had seen. She went white. She told me she had not shown up because she was scared of the house - rumours abounded of noises like children playing in the attic - even when the hous was empty.

My second story has to do with my mother. We were not close - except for Halloween. A costumer and set designer it was her favourite day. I sensed always it had a deeper significance to her as well.

My mother was terminally ill. One day, in an effort to be light hearted and try to offer some humour to the situation as she talked about her coming passing we joked about how appropriate it would be for her to do so on Halloween. This was about six months prior to her passing which was - you guesed it - on Halloween.

There is a traditional belief that there exists a veil between the two world on Halloween night. I have always felt her presende and eerie things have happened since she's been gone.

Growing up, my dad kept a large framed pic of my late grandmother. We had to take her pic down because only HER pic kept falling.

my parents lost a baby before they had me, and swore up and down that she could see spirits. they'd come into her room and she'd be laughing and reaching up at nothing. i have vague memories of her being with me as a kid. i thought she was just an imaginary friend, but i remember scaring the **** out of my mom when i told her.

This reminds me of my little half sister. Before she was born, her mom was married and the baby died. Well when my sister was born years later and started to talk, we'd find her talking to herself. Well one day I go in her room and ask her who she's talking to. She looked at me and said "Amanda!". I'm like oh haaail no! Lol

My grandmother was very, very ill with double pneumonia. She pretty much had a near death experience when she was very sick. She was talking to people that weren't there, saying that she had seen my deceased grandfather and her deceased cousin. I stayed with her to take care of her and we used baby monitors to make sure she was okay during the night when we slept on the other side of the house. One night, while I lay in the bed, I could hear my grandmother breathing heavily from being sick. Out of nowhere, I heard a voice that sounded eerily like my grandfather say "don't touch her" over my grandmothers deep breaths. She then mumbled something and I ran in the room. I thought someone was in the room with her. When I asked her about it she said it was my Pop. Wow. Needless to say, I unplugged the monitor at night after that. I am aware that baby monitors pick up other channels, but usually you hear static first. I am a believer.

Lol. Not too much weird stuff happens there now, apart from the way my dog acts sometimes. It seemed to really be occurring when she was near death. She recovered though. I am sure things will happen again if she ever gets that sick.

I have several 'ghost' stories, but I'll start with this one.

One Christmas Eve night, my little black kitty, Chloe, got very ill. I didn't know what was wrong but I knew she was dying. I took her to an animal emergency clinic - at midnight as Santa was making his rounds, I was driving like a bat out of hell with blood samples on my way to a lab that would run a bunch of tests in hopes of saving her life.

Sadly, she passed away (she got into some anti-freeze somehow, and her kidneys shut down). I had been up all night, so I laid down that afternoon (Christmas Day). Just as I shut my eyes, I saw her. There was a large door with an extremely bright light coming out of it and she was running towards the door as it was slowly closing.

You see, the family joke about her was that she was always on the wrong side of the door. If she was inside, she would sit by the back door and meow to be let out. If she was outside, she would sit by the back door meowing to come back in.

She made it inside the door just in time.

One night I awoke to see my father's face staring at me from the the right corner of the foot of my bed. His face was like a statue, unmoving like stone. His eyes were three times the normal size and almond shaped. There were no irises, just small dot like pupils. I could only see the face, there was no visible body. However, I wasn't afraid, more so annoyed that my father was in my room staring at me sleeping. I never really moved or said anything, but I did glare at him with an unimpressed demeanour. After this, the face dissolved away and I rolled over and fell back asleep.

Was I dreaming? Maybe so, but I can say I never was afraid.

Growing up, we bought a house from my brothers friend. A huge house with a bad history. My bros friend sold it because his mom died in the kitchen. And years later, his dad got stabbed by his gf in the kitchen. Everyone called the house cursed. So many things would happen there. My dad was painting our hall so there was a huge clear sheet up. It was night time and I was in the living room watching tv. All the windows were closed but this plastic sheet went "woooosh" and rippled like someone running past it. I slept with the lights on a lot of times in that house!

I believe a place can become haunted by past negativity. In the house I grew up in, I felt incredibly uncomfortable come nightfall-a childish fear which painted the hallways with ghouls and conjured ghosts in the shadows. To sit alone in a dark room was simply unnerving, despite solitude and darkness being too things I enjoy very much. When we moved to a new apartment, I did not feel this uneasiness. I was very frequently alone in the apartment and never felt the invisible eyes which seemed so commonplace at bedtime. I must simply be maturing, thought I. A few years later, I had no other choice but to move back to my first home and once again, I met with that old apprehension. I believe the negative energy-all of the bad experiences; the dreadful thoughts-just accumulated there.
