My parents use AAA but when I looked into a quote they had all these questions that I didn't know the answer to, and they asked me about my vehicle but I don't have a vehicle.

I went into a car dealership and they told me they can set me up with any insurance I'd like in 15 minutes. But how do I do that on my own and how do I know which insurance to buy?

Personally, I'd probably find an independent insurance agency in my area & let them help me find the best option for me.

I've never had to use my insurance but GEICO was by far the least expensive I found. They have a user friendly website and you can get a no obligation quote online.

Thanks Georgie! Geico was much easier to do. AAA wanted to know every single accident and violation I've ever had on the exact day (how the hell do I know that?) with 40 different accidents and collisions to choose from, and of course running a stoplight wasn't one of them...and it was so confusing.

Geico asked the same thing, except they were more simple about it and they asked how many years ago it was rather than the exact day...and I got the quote I was looking for so now I have a general idea of how much insurance costs...because I had no idea!

I should probably go to the AAA agency to get a quote, but I won't be able to do that until I've purchased my car or I'm afraid they'd be as confusing as their website...although my parents rave about how great their services are.

Call local body shops. They can advise you on good insurance. You could also consult with local lawyers who settle accident cases. They'll know the best insurance companies to work with.

Cheapest isn't the best, especially if you get into an accident (even if it's not your fault).

AAA has always been known for being the most expensive insurance from me experience even back in the 1970's.

Allstate was what I always used until they kept raising their rates. I have home & auto together for that discount. I finally went to the provider list that Dave Ramsey has on his web site & contacted them. They found the cheapest & best provider for my needs. Also when rates raise they look around to see if they can provide through another company something with lower rates so know they are looking out for me also.

Also there are different discounts you can get....good driving, proof of taking the good driving training (hmmmm maybe that's for people over 55????), alarm system on the vehicle, obviously you don't have homeowners/renters so no multiple policy discount....but you can ask when shopping around what discounts are available to make sure you get all you are qualified for.

I found its better to go to an agency than handles different companies than to a company itself to find the best & cheapest. I have been shocked that rates do go up every year even as value goes down......grrrr I honestly hate insurance. It got to the point before that I had to raise the deductible so high just to afford the insurance that I wouldn't be able to repair my truck or home if anything happened anyway.....no point at that point so had to shop around until I got in with the agent I have now

You are relatively young and if you've had many accidents that you don't remember the day and tickets from running red lights it going to be expensive no matter where you go, especially with a new car. There are some companies that giving you discounts if you agree to use a plug in monitor that records your driving habits. Like Eskie said there's lots of web sites that will look for insurance for you then you can research what they recommend to find out if that company is right for you.
