Sometimes it's hard to tell but I know how an AK and a 9mm pistol sound. The explosions... hoping those were fireworks No bullets fell on the house or cars at least but I noticed some rather large holes in some of the yards around the neighborhood.

They made a big deal on the news here that fireworks are illegal in city limits...that cops would be sent out...the fireworks were going off from around 8:30 pm until well after midnight. Some of them sounded like firecrackers and others did not.

Some of my neighbors, both north and south of my property were shooting guns/setting off fire crackers this afternoon. Poor BG hates loud noises. He crawled under the truck and peeked out at me as if he was asking if it was safe.

Yahoos around here started with guns and fireworks around 8 last night. They went bug poop with the stuff at midnight.

Old poop that I am, I was in bed before midnight. The idiots woke me up with the noise. Poor cats were freaked out by it.

People ought to save their ammo. It's expensive!

Shooting off guns is NOT good for soldiers with PTSD, I'm sure. Fireworks alone are bad for them, let alone guns.

It wasn't bad here this year, thankfully. Guess people were either too drunk or deterred by the cold weather.

I was scheduled to give platelets at the Red Cross today, I donate on a set schedule. I asked the guy who did my work up if he did anything exciting last night. He told me he didn't do anything except to go out at midnight to shoot guns with his neighbors. I asked him if he had any idea where those bullets end up. He looked at me as if I just asked him to solve a complicated physics problem or something. I asked if he had ever heard of people being struck by such bullets or property damage or anything like that. This time he looked at me as if I had 2 heads. He said, "I never thought about it."

He must have just been born.

There was a story on the news tonight about a teenage girl who got hit by one of those shot in the air bullets. A couple of years ago a 12 year old boy was struck in the head by a bullet that was shot in the air. He has brain damage as a result. No one knows where the bullet came from because no one in his neighborhood was shooting guns. It's not a complicated physics problem - what goes up eventually comes back down.

Fireworks are illegal here too, but they don't say much about it on holidays where they are traditional.

I just thunk a deep thought...Exploding fireworks are illegal but guns are not...hmmm

Off topic....I'm very dismayed by the national gun lobby, by the mindless use of guns ( such as shooting them into the air), and now the push for open carry handguns. Personally, I would leave any restaurant if I saw this, and I would make sure the business knew my discomfort at being subjected to it. Same for shopping in a grocery store. I don't want to see some sicko strutting around with a gun in the produce aisle.

Isn't that ridiculous? Today is the first day of open carry in Texas. I just don't see the point. It seems like we're devolving into Wild West days where people will be walking around with sixshooters strapped on their hips.

It's not good for many people with PTSD regardless of cause.

Major myth that it's purely due to it sounding like gunfire/explosives

One startle can set off someone who has PTSD. Try thousands of startles within an hour.....it's pure h.....ell.
