I work at McDonald's. To be fair, their are a handful of kind people, but it seems like the self-entitled sue-your-*** tightwads run the store. I'm so sick of it. People give my so much crap that "Oh, you want $15? Then make my burger right!" And I bet you those are those people who order the Big Mac with no cheese no pickle extra onions light mac sauce add bacon sub leaf lettuce served on a buttermilk bun. I get those type of people. ALL. THE. TIME. And if we miss one thing nope, gotta make the whole burger all over again and again and again until they are so infuriated we just HAVE to give them a refund and an apple pie for the inconvenience while they are cursing and swearing at us that we can't get a simple burger right and oh how they are never coming back again.

F those people. Who the hell bred and raised those type of people!?

So yeah...if I cant be treated as a human being, than I DO want to have a $15 raise.

There are a few things I'd like that seems so simple and yet completely disregarded that would make my job so much easier.

1. Look at me and smile when you come up to the counter. Yes, there is a person taking your order, please acknowledge me.

2. If you want to be polite, say "Hi, how are you?" Don't BS me by asking how I'm doing if you're going straight into ordering before I can even answer.

3. I get that your busy. I want to make sure your order is right so we can both get on with our lives, so don't roll your eyes at me when I ask to clarify something.

4. THANK ME. More than anything I want to know my work is appreciated.

I might make minimum wage, but I still work hard and after all the jerks who come through here, I just want to know there's at least one person who can recognize that I am a human being and that I am working hard to do my job right.

For what it's worth, I'm an aerospace laboratory technician and make barely more than you do and wish I got that kind of respect as well. It doesn't get any better that I've ever found.

When I was a System Owner for one of GE's biggest power plant systems I had a Chief Engineer tell me, "Son, I've been putting these in for fifty years and we didn't need this." My response? "How many towers have you run?" He said none. I told him to shut up and get out of my way.

You are right...there is no excuse for people not treating others with respect no matter how bad their day might have been.

People like that have been raised with entitlement as their only goal & never having to be concerned about anyone but themselves & what they want....sadly that attitude is not just aimed at workers providing them a service, their lack of caring becomes their way of life.

I love interfacing with check out people at the end of a long day when they are looking rather grumpy after having had to put up with not so nice people all day. They are usually smiling & not having to fake their "have a good night" by the time they finish checking me out no matter what kind of day mine has been, kindness to others makes oneself feel better along with the other person.

Sad to think how miserable those people really are that it overflows into how they treat others that way with no regard...sadly it doesn't say much about how our society has evolved over the years or how parents have brought up their children to think of others.....so worried about political correctness yet no concern about being truly kind to others or at minimum using some level of diplomacy when interfacing with others.

I don't know why people have to be so disrespectful. Society has raised a bunch of people who feel that they are entitled to getting quality service without feeling the need to be polite.

I know that thanks to your post I will be more aware of how I'm treating others.

Thanks for your post.

I'm very aware that McDonald's employees do an outstanding job under demanding circumstances. And rude customers only make things much more difficult.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for doing an often thankless job.

I mean did you personally place yourself at center for the minimum wage increase discussion? Well, even if you had, isn't it up to these people who behave with arrogance whilst stuffing their faces at a fast food joint, to protest through their local and state politicians??

I rarely eat out but when I'm in a fast food queue I watch the people working. I could not do that job. Not would not, could not. At peak times I would be frazzled by the pace and pressure even if customers kept their orders straight and simple... and were actually ready to order when their turn came instead of holding me up and making the customers behind them wait. And the people in prep multitasking while under pressure to get 5 things done and done right, right now, is impressive. Unfortunately this is seen as an unimportant, no respect job.

The world really is full of jerks.
Respect in the work place is becoming
harder and harder to find.
