It's a tough situation. Read that Chris Rock rewrote the script. At the same time, it jabs at white people. For what, being white? The European actress, name doesn't come easy to my mind, had words about it, in French. Clint Eastwood said that it is difficult to gain an Oscar, regardless. My friend from youth shared a historical list of winners. She's against the boycott, she cries foul from being of mixed decent anyways and will tell you/anyone straight up which side has been the hardest for her, in her life. Not that either side of the racial discussion has been easy. From arguments and having to jump through hoops to prove she's her daughter's mother to leaving the salon frustrated for straightening her hair because straight is oh so much prettier.

I don't personally believe that cracking jokes at whiteness is the answer if someone wants to push the message of why aren't more minorities making it to the nomination of actors list. Spike Lee did decline to be in attendance to be honored for his governor's award.

I don't know.

I think the oscars are overrated anyway,
But to me the only way to solve the problem is to give black people better roles in better movies.

But of course, that won't happen anytime soon because black people "don't sell" according to Hollywood.

The thing is, there are many great black actors and actresses out there, but they only ever get nominated if they play a maid, or a slave or an otherwise, poor, down and out character wit little future.

Hollywood says that white people can't relate to black characters, so they don't give black people very many leading roles in big, blockbuster movies. It's sad, but I mean, we can't do anything about it until society tells Hollywood that we do want more black characters

One more thing. If they cast more minorities in roles, the nominations should be balanced out proportionally.

This sums it up very well.

The Oscars are a bunch of narcissists dressed up in designer clothes praising themselves. This one, last night, was also an opportunity for Chris Rock to rant on racism. There is no racism. I'm sick of it. Give us some award-worthy performances and they'll receive nominations. There have been plenty of past Black actors to receive awards. This year, none.

Let's face it, Entertainment Awards are meaningless to everyone except the self-serving Hollywood Types and those who milk these Cash Cows. The only Real World purpose for an Oscar is to tag another zero onto the Box Office or the individual recipient's next pay cheque.

I have no problem identifying with characters of any Race, it is the Writing, not the Casting which is important. If there is a perceived problem, it is at the Story/Writing stage, not at the Casting Stage. You want a mature Black Lead? Write for Morgan Freeman or Samuel L Jackson from the outset.

I cannot see a Hollywood Studio turning down a beautifully written script because of the ethnic make-up of the Characters, too much risk of another Production Company making money. Perhaps, instead of whining, people should flood their Agents and Managers with well-crafted Screenplays with appropriate roles.

Dave.

Outrage over the Oscars, yet, no outrage over the Presidential Elections? Hmmm.. Not trying to stir a debate or similar, just pointing something out about society.

I thought the Presidential Elections were a long-running Comedy Tour

But then I realise the enormity of the Power that position holds and I am horrified by the behaviour of all individuals involved
