that's another thing entirely- so now you know why i order so many take out meals haha

Yup, absolutely. I've not been seriously cooking for long, not even a year yet, but damn have I learned fast. I'm passionate about it and cook frequently. I very much enjoy what I cook; it's flavorsome and typically very healthy. I tend to steam, boil, grill, and sauté. I enjoy learning how to use new foods and of course eating them. My parents got me a steamer a while back and I love it; I've used it a lot and I think it might just be my favorite gift from them in a long time!

I'm obsessed with vegetables. Seriously, I wake up in the morning (or afternoon as it tends to be for me) brush my teeth, then prep a meal and cook it! Yep. Some people eat cereal, but not me. No way, no how. I'm all about those vegetables. Sweetcorn, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, peas, onions, potatoes, and more... that's what gets my stomach going. Sometimes I cook, not because I'm hungry, but because I want to cook! I've thought about looking into a cooking course to learn more stuff and just because I find it so fun. xD

I also find cooking somewhat therapeutic... I dunno why. Maybe it's just the whole process of creating and consuming something that just taps into that caveman within. lol

As for takeout meals... man, I used to love those a lot. Nowadays? I'd sooner cook something; not only is it drastically healthier and surely cheaper, but it's delicious too. In-fact, I'd go so far as to say a plate of steamed vegetables especially with steamed cherry tomatoes with cheese grated over the top... mmmmmm... I'd take that over a takeout most days. I've noticed since I got into cooking that I rarely get takeouts.

I'm an adult so yes I can cook. It is not the kind of cooking you see on TV, but it is cooking. Cooking is a part of a normal adult skillset. Then of course you can do better or worse with cooking.

Well, seeing as my dad was a chef, I grew up learning a thing or two...

Nowadays my cooking, I'm told, is pretty darn good. Varying from Japanese Ramen to Italian pasta's, lasagna's and lasagnette's, and from my "Indonesian" satay stew to good old English cottage pie...

And, like the Skeezyks, I also bake breads:

so would you say you're a good cook?
Thanks for this!

Yup, I even looked up the history in scoring the top of such loafs of bread:

According to local history, back in the old days people used communal ovens to bake bread. To keep track of which loaf belonged to who, people used to carve their distinct mark on their breads. These scores would vary, but I (using my mates oven) have the luxury of carving my bread for aesthetic reasons (and to help bake the bread, of course)...

People tell me I'm a good cook. In my younger days I was a die hard made from scratch cook. I even made my own pasta! Lack of time and energy put an end to that.

I work long hours so frequently lack the energy to cook when I get home. I stop and pick something up on the way home a couple of nights a week. Plus, I'll cook stuff on the weekend I can reheat during the week.

A question for y'all - I like cooking for others, but not so much when it's just for me. How about you other single folks, do you find cooking just for yourself a chore rather than fun?
Thanks for this!

Living alone these past 9 years has been a challenge to cook for just myself. I eat when I get hungry, not at any specific time of day. Cooking for one is a challenge even halting a recipe I get leftovers for weeks. They just dont taste the same after being frozen.

Ok, I enjoy gourmet cooking but dusting the summer it's throw lettuce in a bowl, cheese, tomato & other goodies & that is my meal.

I also love grilling. Last night was grilled fillet mignon & grilled squash. A few nights ago grilled brats & German potato salad & sauerkraut.

The worst part is that I have a freezer full of food I never get around to cooking.

Hard to believe in the late 70's, I was into making my own mayo, & even my own baby food for our daughter while finishing off my degree & starting me computer engineering career. Where I found the energy is beyond me.

Love the gourmet cooking even for myself but I'm hardly ever inspired to do it.

I NEVER do takeout except last week. I went to this new restaurant called gumbo ya ya.....ok, gotta learn how to make maque choux. I even ended up ordering one of their other dishes for enjoyment the next day because it tasted sooooooo good. But I have to really like a take out to order & it has to be unique, something I would never cook at home.

Honestly there are nights when I am too tired to even scramble an egg though fratatas are usually my go to meal.

I have to have tasty food or I won't eat....that comes from too mant years dealing with anorexia. My body has a hard time telling me that it's hungry?

The last years of my marriage I flat out refused to cook anything. It was interesting the first week in my new farm house after going to the grocery store I remember standing in my kitchen in front of the stocked cupboards & refrig, CELEBRATING buying only foods that I liked. All the unique things I basically hadn't enjoyed for 33 years unless I had eaten out. He was so picky, even hated pizza when we first got married. I made him cook his food every other day & I would cook mine the other days. The problem was, I ate everything & he didn't so my cooking days still had to be pleasing to him....I was so thankful that was over. Cooking for one the things I like is a joy.

There was a time where I really hated cooking. Before that it was fun, after that it was fine. So I don't see it as super fun, but it is fine.

I'm not a huge fan of cooking for others. I am OK cooking just for me. Actually I prefer that to cooking for me and my friend, which I do quite a bit, because there are things she does not eat, like meat and onions.

I totally love eating alone. I really don't like eating with people unless breakfast that I like eating with my friend. People don't understand the joy of eating alone.

I don't particularly enjoy cooking...well, it's the clean-up I don't enjoy...but I raised a family, so yeah, I'm a good cook if I have to be.

I can boil eggs and pan cook a chop. I can make pancakes. Good cook? Not really. Just can't be bothered with it. I reheat frozen meals.

I can cook - cook for my family every night. And I can bake. Basic cakes, cookies, rusks, desserts, muffins and stuff. Wish I could do fancy icing (frosting)

I am a great cook. I specialize in Oriental and anything with chicken. I am also well known around my home as The Breakfast King.

I suck at baking, however. And cooking up lies.
