The American Masters Program is featuring Les Paul and Mary Ford on PBS this evening. I remember my dad, who was a musician, watching them on the 50's black and white TV, and he liked them. I was just little and never really paid attention. I see that they were real song stylists and very gifted. Does anyone else here remember them?

Although I don't like to admit it (because it means I'm really old) I vaguely remember watching them on black and white TV.
He was a great guitar player. The harmony of their music was really unforgetable. |

Les Paul is still alive, 92, and just gave a concert in Waukesha, his hometown (about 30 miles west of Milwaukee).

The program explained what pioneers they were in recording their own music, layers of her vocals and of his instrumentals, on early recording machines at their home!

Of course, as a guitar player I know and respect Les Paul.
The thing I find fascinating, tho, is that behind every great innovation, invention, idea, company, or philanthropic endeavor was just one single person with a passion. Some of our national parks have been created from the idea and passion of just one person. ONE person can make such a difference on this planet. |
