Receiving literally 1,000's of unwanted emails about payments, etc. I've spent hours trying to clean up the mess, running security scans ( I have two protection services), plus blocking senders. It's scary that this could happen!
I think it's fixed, but I may have to change my beloved email addy!

So sorry this happened to you. Hubby had to abandon one because it kept getting accessed from India We never could figure out how it happened. It is indeed very scary.

You may just need a better password. Six figures minimum, mix upper and lower case letters and use some special characters and numerals.
Thanks for this!

I mean it's a moot point now but that's what stumped us George. His password at the time was TriloMan!aC19. It literally was just something we came up with out of the blue that had never been used before or used since lol. It's why we couldn't figure out how they got it and how they were accessing it. So he basically wiped the email, wiped the recovery info and ditched it. Hopefully you won't have to go through all that Seeker.

Ouch!

Wouldn't it be nice if people with this kind of knowledge would use it to do good instead of bad?

Sorry you had to deal with a mess like this!

Thanks for this!

I don't know Raindropvampire but people should always be cautious especially on social media sites... and change pw's occasionally. A hacker doesn't have to hack you or bruteforce your pw. They can hack a database for a site where you've used your email to register or whatnot. Especially if they'e still using an outdated SQL. Having multiple email addys for different purposes is also a good idea. I'm not a geek by any stretch but I've never been hacked... knock on wood

My business email, through a provider got 1000's of spam and junk (including porn) email. I complained all the time but it never stopped. I ditched that email address when we moved cities and got a new provider. I've noticed my yahoo account, which I almost never check - also gets junk. I never use my gmail either, perhaps I should sometime.

I'm sorry that happened Seeker. I dread having my e-mail hacked, but so far I've been lucky. There was an attempt made to hack my hotmail account, but fortunately microsoft caught it, and I was able to change my password before any damage was done.

Thanks, all friends. I did change my password, and have blocked all the senders, and now the messages, those that get thru, are going to junk mail, but after a night's sleep, the junk mail was full again. It's an MSN email account, and I've contacted them. I think they've put a freeze on the good incoming mail. I have other email accounts I can use, but my contacts are all with the MSN account, and it's a pain to deal with. I'm leaving USA tomorrow, be gone a month! I want to just close the account completely, but my sign in on my computer is thru the MSN account, using that password. (I'm talking about when you turn on your computer and have to type in a password to access the Internet, etc.) I've tried to make Google Chrome my default so I can sign in with it, but so far it's not working.

Receiving spam means someone got hold of the name of the addy. Doesn't mean someone been inside your account.

That really sucks. The account is tainted, IMO. I would remove it and migrate to another ASAP.

So, I left to visit my daughter overseas for a month. Shortly after the hacking, someone tried to max out my Comenity account at BonTon to the tune of $3,000. I didn't know of this until I returned to the US. The purchases were denied, thank goodness. I don't know if this was due to the hacking, but I suspect it was. When I received those 1000's of emails, like every 3 seconds, I did open one of them, and it stated something about "your account is in jeopardy, etc." I closed that email account that very night, but I suspect it was somehow related to the credit card purchases.

I doubt you have your credit card info in your email.

Maybe it was your computer that was hacked and you have a keylogger.
Thanks for this!

Sorry this happened to you. We have someone trying to scam us out of $25 through PayPal right now, saying we bought something. They even went as far as mailing some trash so they would have a tracking number to prove they shipped something. Makes my blood boil.
