My late dog was great as a support dog, even though she wasn't trained in any way. If you are allowed to have one where you live you can pick up a dog at the pound for little cost. An untrained dog might not be as good as a trained one but they still can be of great help.

I'm sure your national mental health association can help with this information.
Thanks for this!

Hi Roba..........It might help to do some checking on different breeds. Some are hyper and need more activity. Even mixed breeds have characteristics. I would consider a smaller dog. They can still get their exercise in small areas and cost less to feed.
If you can talk to your health care provider, they may have some ideas.
All of my dogs have come from the SPCA or from a rescue shelter and have been mixed breeds (mutts). They are very comforting and like all living things need care and kindness.
........Best wishes on finding your new friend

Thanks I asked my primary doctor if a dog would help me and he said no. I have depression, anxiety, I have dizzy spells and at times I feel like I am going to pass out and sometimes there is no warning and I just pass out. I like black labs and I know that they make good service dogs but I am not sure on other breeds. I have a relative who is an animal control officer in one town I have a friend who is an animal control officer.
