A very very sad day in the U.S.
The worst mass shooting in our nations history.
50 dead and 53 injured in Orlando nightclub.
My heart hurts today. Why do things like this happen?

The story is still breaking here in Florida. Investigators are looking at possible terrorist ties. I don't understand this kind of hatred.

I wonder if ready access to firearms might not have something to do with it? Just a thought.

Later stories said 50 people killed and another 50+ injured. Facts tend to get scrabbled during a breaking story like this one.

Other later reports are saying it was not terrorism, but rather a man angry about two men kissing in public.

The killer was shot by police.

ManOfConstantSorrow, the shooter had his guns legally. I'm sure this will give a fresh push to the gun debate.

Major fail for the FBI.
It is so heart wrenching. The sad truth is, that it can happen to anyone anywhere.

A terrorist agency has taken credit for the attack.

Hello,

I never have the words in those cases, but the sadness for the people who are died and those who have been hurt. And the families of course.

How many people have to die before we ban the sale of assault weapons?

Very well said but the big money people and the politicians they own
just don't seem to care.

This just breaks my heart.

I also don't understand how he got the guns so quickly the news said he got them last week. I thought it took longer to get a background check.

Kindness you said how many people have to die before we ban assault weapons. When a politicians child or family members dies. Then and only then will someone do something about it

A horrifying event and a very sad day for the nation. I'm fed up with politicians, those people we elect to serve and protect our country, doing jack***t about the mass shooting problem we have.

I don't know much about this stuff and I do not like guns but recently my husband got 2 of them. He works for an electrical company who has a job at the airport. So he had to have an FBI background check his finger prints were taken and he had to do other stuff to be able to drive on the tar Mack. But when he went to get his guns it still took 2 weeks for the checks. This guy got his guns last week. How does that happen ?

Also I do not think anyone other then the military should have these automatic guns.

My heart and prayers go out to those family's

My deepest apologies for disagreeing, but I don't think the problem is weapons.

I think the problem is hatred that sees no compromise, hatred that sees no humanity in those it chooses to disagree with.

Emotions like anger and hatred leave no room for seeing the humanity of those they focus a person's attention on. Any belief can be a convenient excuse to release the hatred and anger curling inside someone with a proverbial axe to grind.

You make a good point about guns. The brothers who murdered people in Boston used pressure cooker bombs. If a person has that much hate in them they will find a way to kill. That said, I see no reason for the average citizen to own assault weapons.

People come to the USA to live the lives they want to live. To me it's simple if you do not like gay people then do not live in the USA.

If you want to live in a country where you can shoot your neighbor then leave the USA simple.

People come here for the freedom. For the freedom to pray to what god they want to pray to. To love who ever they want to love wither they are white, black catholic or Muslim or what ever.
It's sad all the way around and I hope I am making sense. It's just not right

Guns are not the problem. Restricting them and banning assault weapons is essentially the same as an 'end-of-pipe' solution. However, end-of-pipe solutions in their original context, and this one, aren't always all for not. This is especially so considering that in the case of domestic acts of terror, hate crimes, and so on; The true origins of cause, motive and means between them are vast and complex. Although they can be radically simplified between experts and the uninformed, they still remain ambiguous. To elaborate, restrictions and bans on guns will not remove one's intent, it will simply result in accomplishing their intents through different means. If guns were banned, said means would be found to be either less or more detrimental to society than previous means (guns), or be found to impose little change in either direction. Further action could be taken there-on in response.

I myself was mourning the loss of the beautiful Christina Grimmie in Orlando early on Saturday morning. The events on Sunday morning turned my sadness into some intense internal tribulation.

This weekend really sucked.
