I made a thread like this some time ago, but since old members and new members are coming and going, I thought I'd do it again.

I'm a knitter, and love the soothing feeling and creativity that goes into making something from two sticks and some yarn. Right now I'm looking at patterns to make a pouch for my Tarot cards, which I just recently bought and wanted something to keep them in.

Anyone else feel the same way too? Are you into any of the fiber arts? Knitting? Crocheting? Needlepoint? Tatting? Care to share how it helps you out with healing from a mental illness?

I knit like crazy. I love the feel of wool, and seeing the bright colours. It's an instant mood lifter for me, and really helps ground me, when I'm feeling SU.

Anyone knit, crochet or do other fiber related creative stuff?

Pssh!! I'm not even gonna say what happened to a pair of boxer shorts I tried to sow in high school. God bless those who can knit, crochet etc..., but I'm not one of them.

i have been knitting for years but i am too lazy to learn how to do it better. i don't know how to read patterns; all i knit are scarves, blankets hats and socks. but i like it that way i really don't feel like learning more i think it would become stressful.

i started learning crochet and knit a square that i sewed onto a sweater as a pocket. haven't picked it up again.

used to do needlepoint and crosstitch but it's been many years.

i find it soothing as well. something to do with my hands.

I like to crochet mostly afghans for around the house, but I've also done some fun stuff like puppets and toys. I have knitted before, but just a basic stitch I learned from a book and it's been awhile. I'm much more comfortable crocheting

I'm trying to learn to sew! It's really, surprisingly cool... despite being insanely frustrating at times. I'd really love to find a good, local class... because I think having somebody walk you through things probably makes a difference.

Has anyone tried any of the Craftsy classes? I'm taking the intro to sewing knit fabrics... and working on my first project, a fleece hoodie. It's a little hard to get excited about a hoodie when it's close to 100-degrees outside . But, I just hemmed the hood part of it... and even though my sad little zigzags go all over the place (she had us do 2 rows, and my second row actually crosses over the first, ha!) - despite that, it's really neat! You could almost use the hood as a hat, by itself.

But it sure is hard to get all that stuff to work right! The measuring, the cutting, the trying to get the material to go through the machine evenly and not move to the side, praying that the thread doesn't suddenly turn into a big tangled web of gloom mid-stitch.

Fun though! I hope to progress to t-shirts because I cannot find t-shirts in the stores that are comfortable, colors I like, and not see through. !

How'd you guys get started knitting? What's been your favorite project?

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
