I notice that there are usually more "guests" viewing than members at times. I'd like to encourage "guests" to join so you can communicate with us. I only joined the site a few days ago, but have already gotten some good help and advice from others by joining.
Thanks for this!

I encourage them too! I think some people are scared to join up because of the "stigma" of mental illness. I would like to see some new members joining up. Glad you are finding help here highnrg1. I am glad you found a home here. I have enjoyed this site for the past few years.

just wanted to let you know that "guests" does not just reflect those that are non members. it is also the members that have not logged in....

example I show up as part of the "guest" count when I am reading with out logging in.

not sure but guest count ...may..... also include the members that have chosen to set their profiles as invisible\unseen even when the member is logged in.

example I have my profile set so that I do not show that I am logged in. I prefer people to not know exactly when I am logged in as I tend to come and go depending upon my work schedule and family life, and some members may be sensitive to members who they see logged in one moment and off line the next, then back on again. sometimes mental disorders have a paranoid symptom where when they see someone popping on and off line they wonder and take it personally. this way my coming and going from the site constantly some days when I have slow then busy moments wont affect others.

my point its good that you are encouraging non members to join, but wanted you to know the Guest count may not be accurately reflecting ....just .......non members.
Thanks for this!

If you ever look at "who's online" most of the people online are "guests". So I think they are people just looking at the site and browsing, but for some reason don't feel comfortable joining yet. Also, when you look at who is viewing comments, it might say "2 members and 12 guests" or something like that and it's happening in real-time. That seems to indicate that many people are just looking at comments and don't feel comfortable joining the conversations just yet. I am trying to encourage people to join so they can participate more, because reading about others that struggle just like us is one thing, but communicating with them is another step and can be very helpful, at least in my experience.

Lots of people will find the site through search engines like Google. Also, people who perhaps aren't currently logged in. I'm sure there are still plenty who lurk, though.

I don't know. 12 guests on 2 members that makes a lot. Sometimes, I want to answer to someone, but I say in myself that if I answer I take the responsabiity regarding to the person. I have not always the good response or a idea to bring. Maybe it's the same for them.
There is often many responses to the questions awaited. Like here, I don't think that my intevention moves the discussion forward.

Yes, this is the case if you see a post with a name of "Guest". The other guests are people who are either not logged in or are people who are searching our forums for specific things and are not members of Psych Central. Neither "guest" can post to the forums.
Thanks for this!
