Hey everyone!

I was on another forum and someone asked an interesting question and I thought I would make a Poll about it.

How do you feel about "text talk or speak?" I find it unbelievably annoying because I guess I am old school and when someone tries to communicate with me shorthand speak does really annoy me. I don't mind the occasional "lol" or "omg" because hey, I like those too. But things like "hi hw r u" bother me so much!

So I ask you out there, what do you think of "text speak?"

I really do though. Even when I got my first phone at 13/14... I made a point of typing everything out fully. Although I may have been guilty of some abbreviations like, you know... lol, or rofl or roflmao.

Well I am frustrated by it. I am insulted when people send me texts full of it. It tells me they can't take the time to write properly and that I'm not worthy to have done so. It really doesn't take much more time to write properly. it's more respectful too.

I don't mind it for texts, but I hate when people say more than LOL on online forums. But I don't think it should be used for serious messages like work messages or messages such as "gr8 grandma died". I mean, doesn't great grandma deserve a full written message?
Thanks for this!

So I voted before I read the message. Yes I do hate that type of texting as well. I think if you're under the age of 30, it's pretty common. IMO

I don't mind the occasional "lol" or "OMG" when texting someone, but to have to read a full message in text speak just hurts my brain. I feel like I'm trying to decipher some ancient hieroglyphs or something. Same with "L33t", that "language" where you substitute letters for numbers.

Easy vote: hate it. Particularly when I don't know the meaning of some.

We have a forum sort of thing on facebook for our town's job seekers. I am utterly gobsmacked at they way people request jobs. Most of the time, it is completely unintelligible. I'm guilty of not bothering to read posts if the post is written in such a way that it doesn't make sense.

The only use I have for texting is mostly for a grocery or store list of things not to forget to buy and sending or receiving pictures. Other than that I despise texting in general.

Well the question is do you "dislike" text speak. The option for "No it doesn't bother me at all" could be considered liking it? I don't know I didn't really think about it.

I don't even like "lol" because it seems to me that it's used in situations that are anything but funny or at others' expense a lot. I mean, I won't get upset if someone sends it to me so long as it's nice but I prefer "haha" to express humor.

Text speech was originally intended to make it easier for people with the phones where you had to push each button several times just to get a letter. Most of them were gone by 2010. If anyone is still using those phones, it makes sense for them, but is completely unnecessary for qwerty keyboards of any kind. I'm also not a fan of acronyms unless it's for a disability and even then I have to google some of those.

On another board these people had a list of acronyms for common words and I couldn't stay there because I was too confused by it.
Thanks for this!

you just had to put the option out there that I couldn't resist to click could you

But to be honest it really depends how what kind of conversation. If i make a joke, that isn't THAT funny, i'm okay with a "lol" reply. but things like "hi hw r u " just seems lazy

What I mean is I notice people tend to put "lol" after their sentences when they are bullying someone...which I don't find funny at all
