Think we have all had times when we really, really, REALLY wanted to make a good impression on someone....maybe trying to get someone interested in us, job interview, first date, etc. However, we didn't make quite the impression we were hoping for.

For example, I once (years ago) went bowling with my brother, his family, and one of their friends. I was interested in going out with this friend, so was trying to make a very good impression on him...and it was working.

Then, during one of my turns to bowl...it was like one of my feet was suddenly glued to the floor as I was walking to throw the ball. I fell flat on my face, in front of everyone who was at the bowling alley.

I recovered, and my next turn came up. That same foot stuck to the floor again...but this time the other one now went sliding like it was on ice. After doing some Fred Flinstone type bowling dance, I ended up doing the splits as I threw the ball. (Oddly, I actually made a strike this time)

lol, heard chuckles after the first fall. Heard laughter and applause after the splits fall.

(Found out that there had been water on the floor, which I apparently walked through, and that can mess up bowling shoes)

Not exactly the impression I was trying to make, but it worked out pretty well in the end. He did ask me out, we fell in love, and got engaged. We did break up before we got married, but it was amicable.

Sometimes you just gotta laugh.

Anyone else experience things like this when trying to impress?

the demmi lovato song heart attack comes to mind

especially the line

"every time i try to be myself, it comes out all wrong like a cry for help"

that's me.. and it's annoying!

the impression someone usually gets from me is.. seriously?. does she ever shut up about her problems?

ugh, that would get annoying.

I haven't had to deal with that, but sometimes my direct nature can give the impression that I am angry or unhappy about something.

LOL.....at the age of 63, I no longer try to make impressions but I have to admit, some guys tend to make assumptions & it's actually rather fun to embarrass them to death about those assumptions.

I had/have a noise in the rear end of my truck that is horrible more so when backing up. I had an extended warranty on my truck & wanted to make sure it wasn't something horrible before the warranty was up, so one of the mechanics drove around in my truck & we even came out to my farm to get the noise to make sure it happened because it always happened on the hill right in front of my house crossing the field.

So he tries to tell me that it's water in the tail pipe of some really stupid reasoning. I commented that it didn't even make sense from an engineering stand point & then pointed out that I had been an aerospace engineer in my career before I came here......never saw anyone shut up so quickly & apologize for talking down to me as I'm sure he did most women he dealt with.

I usually don't bother to say anything about what I did before moving here but when some guys want to treat me like a woman who doesn't know anything.....I let them have it & make sure they get the impression of me that I am a college educated professional.....but only when they "ASK FOR IT". LOL....they are usually the one's gone wrong in the first place of I wouldn't bother making sure they get the right impression of me because in reality, I'm JUST me with no need for any impressions unless the situation calls for it.

Hahahaha!! I can only imagine the look on his face when he heard the words "aerospace engineer". Good for him for apologizing, maybe he learned a valuable lesson that day.

When I was in my early 20s, I used to work in a liquor store. This absolutely beautiful girl came in......I was working the beer chest that day. She walked up to me and gave me this great smile, said hello, and started asking me about the beer. I couldn't speak. When I was finally able to blurt out something moderately intelligent, I apologized and said that sometimes I trip over my words (which I never do). I felt like a complete idiot.

I think there was a voice in my head that said "don't screw this up, don't screw this up". But of course, I did. Later on, I laughed because I probably had no chance anyway. Holy cow, she was pretty though.
