So, as I vaguely mentioned in the Tech geek thread, I had applied for a college course. Computing: Technical Support with Cyber-security to be specific.

I had an information session & informal interview today. She said I would be getting a full offer within 10 days!

Course sounds quite fun. Apparently three quarters of it is lab work, so very hands on which I like the idea of.

Of course, being a college course I think the majority of people will be a fair bit younger than me, recent school leavers but there may be some other mature students. Will just have to wait and see!

Anyway, really excited & this is a great step in my recovery. Been 5 years since I graduated Uni & 4 years since I last had a job, so will be great to be doing something again. (it shouldn't be too taxing on the flip side either but opens the door to advanced courses afterwards if I decide to go for a career in IT)

Congratulations on being offered a place on the course you wanted! A large portion of lab work will certainly be helpful, and make the time pass more quickly. Also, it must be a great feeling to know that you have a real structure to your days after having been without a job for so long.

I hope that you're able to meet people of a similar age and experience, but also be able to connect with some of the younger people.

I wish you all the best and hope that the course opens the doors you want!

So, I thought I'd just do a quick update here...

Just finished my first week of college. Overall it went very well & I haven't had too much problems socializing with people even if they are a fair bit younger. Certainly makes me feel a bit out of touch though not knowing what games & stuff they are talking about...!

Anxiety has been playing up a bit but I think my SSRI needs tweaked or change anyway, plus I'm sure I'll have less to worry about as I get used to things.

I found the first day really tiring even though it was a short day but the other days passed fairly quickly for full days.

I'm sure in no time I'll be into a routine!

Highlight of the week was stripping & re-building a desktop PC in pairs. Having not owned a desktop PC for a few years now, I was a bit unsure about what some cables were at first but had everything sussed out by the end.

I remember some of my courses included some students that were older. More serious and I felt they contributed more so than the typical age range. So, sometimes it works to your benefit.
