a thread for hobbies that you regret taking up, and that you don't do anymore.

mine is watching cricket.

I decided, for some odd reason, to take up watching cricket (I suppose because everyone kept talking about it), most boring thing I ever did- I will never watch another cricket match in my life

jigsaw puzzles too. I thought i'd enjoy them because I like anagrams and stuff, I don't

your turn

Alcohol and every drug under the sun but I've been clean for some time now and there's no way I'm ever going back to that "hobby"

Knitting and crochet.

I got all the supplies, some beautiful things, and took classes. I was all excited and had these grand plans. I kept trying but not only could I not do much of what was in my plans, I discovered I could not do it for very long it as it was too painful and my hands would ache and swell. I went to the doctor to discover I have arthritis that it aggravated it. I donated everything to a local senior center that has knitting group. I regretted the money and time wasted but the women loved the yarns I had gotten so at least someone could enjoy them!

I have the same problem. The difference is ive been crocheting since childhood and it's a deeply rooted passion of mine. Sometimes I can tollerate a bit at a time but it's been awhile and my arthritis seems to get so much worse in the winter (they say this is a myth but my bones don't agree). Sorry you had to donate so much.
Thanks for this!

Dancing in public.....I look like I'm having a spasm.

So, now I do it to lighten the mood and to screw around but back in the day I thought I had skill ....I was wrong.

.....Oh, so wrong.....

Oh, and screw watching baseball (US version of cricket).

hobbies you regret taking up?

I almost regret taking up outdoor pursuits. Living on the prairies now has all but eliminated the opportunity to do so. I hadn't taken them up, I would have nothing to pine and long for today.

I regret letting my collection of now that's what I call music CDS get ruined.

I had, at 1 point, a shelf dedicated to those albums

now they are just scattered round my room, not even in the proper case barely working

fly fishing

bought the tackle, took the lessons

liked casting in a field for practice

but could never bear actually hooking a fish so gave away all the stuff

kept the cool waterproof felt bottomed shoes for navigating slippery wet rocks

and searching for trout in the shadow pools, just to observe them

beautiful fish

When I was young I was a guitar player. (Throw a rock into a crowd & you have at least a 50% chance of hitting a guitar player... right?) I gave that up years ago. A few years back, I decided I wanted to play some music again. But I didn't want to go back to the guitar. I decided perhaps I could play the autoharp. I thought it would be easy. It wasn't... at least not the way I wanted to play it. I spent quite a bit of money on it. Now it's all packed away in a back closet.

stain glass sort of. It is an expensive hobby, took a class but never was good at it. Invested in a grinder, glass, expensive cutters, everything, never ended up doing much with it, made a few small things.

The one I guess I really regret, is trying to make model cars. I loved the old time NASCAR, not this crap they have now. Well, with very bad motor skills, I have model car boxes and Diecast cars, that I will never be able to do anything with.
