I wanted to share this, since so many people here were incredibly helpful with advice last summer about the situation.
Super quick recap: I'm in a condo that has a contract with an HVAC company (which is really just a husband-wife team). The woman who returns phone calls and schedules service was awful to me last year - literally screaming at me on the phone, b/c I escalated her non-responsiveness to a board member who called her and told her to call me. I have never, ever in my life been yelled at by somebody that is a service provider. The woman was totally off her rocker. I didn't go to the HOA, as I had a lot of personal things/stress going on, and wasn't sure of how to best handle it (and whether the HOA would be willing/able to take any action). But, I was thinking about it last night... wondering if I could/should bring it up when we have our annual meeting in the spring. Today, I got a mass email from the HOA stating that, as of yesterday, the company had ended their contract with us! *Cheers!* The board is looking to see if we can replace them, but the other options are all expensive, so we may end up voting at the meeting on whether to raise our HOA fees to cover a new provider, or to do without. I am really hoping we decide to just do without - our fees are already very high, and I think I can get better service by working one-on-one with a company where I have the power to fire them, rather than with a company that doesn't care whether I'm happy with the service provided. Anyway, I'm so relieved that I won't have to deal with this woman again. Last year was awful, and I was not looking forward to having to get annual service again this year. The guy who did the repairs was a nice fellow, was soft-spoken and polite, but trying to get them out here for anything was a nightmare... every single year. Thanks again for the support and advice last year! |
