Does anybody here over age 20 or so use Facebook? If so, could you tell me what's so faboo about it? I had a reason for signing up that seems to be unsupported, now that I have a chance to look around the place. In fact, it seems just generally lame. Convince me why it's worth it.

Candy...I just saw this featured on the cover of Newsweek, but I didn't pick up the magazine to read about it. I'm curious to know how it works for you!

Do I count?
![]() I'm 21 and I use Facebook. I'm addicted though, so I might be biased. It's a good tool for keeping in contact with people, it's easier than email and you can keep people up-to-date with what's happening to you without them having to ask all the time. It's fun. It's not for everyone though, but I know of plenty of people who got it to keep in contact with just a few different people. Also, for anyone who doesn't know what Facebook is: htttp://www.facebook.com/ It's a social networking type site, sorta like MySpace, but in my opinion - better. *shrugs* If I can answer any specific questions Candy, let me know. ![]()

Yes you count
![]() Also bear in mind that I am exactly twice your age, which makes me a curmudgeonly old fart resistant to change. ![]() Anyway, Facebook is becoming a big deal in my biz, and I've heard talk of people using it to showcase their work. That's what I signed up hoping to do, as I'd rather not send professional contacts to my personal webpage, which is in fact very personal. Color me stupid, but I don't see how it's possible! |

Well, you can do that. You can use Facebook for a lot of stuff. It has a pretty nice standard design - no funky colours or music or weird graphics (unless you want them). I think that's how it differs from MySpace.
I've seen my profs and other working professionals use it. The only issue is that a person has to have a Facebook account to access what you post on YOUR Facebook page. If I can help ya out, let me know. And being exactly twice my age doesn't make you old - you're younger than my parents, hence not old! Ha.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There's a reason technology is the province of the under-30 crowd -- it's because their brains are more flexible. I can hand-code HTML, but I'm too stupid to figure out Facebook! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hate being old. I used to be a quick learner. ![]() |

I'm finding it rather boring as well.

I haven't found Facebook to be all that exciting, but I just use to keep in contact with family/friends that use it.
There's some neat little things on it, though....if you have a lot of people on your friends list, that is. I'm 23, BTW. |

One thing it's turned out to be good for is getting back in touch with former students. (I taught college for a number of years.) Also, all my nieces and nephews turn out to be on it, so that's kind of cool. But overall, I like my personal webpage better.

There's talk that facebook will soon be publicly displaying your personal information for all to see.

I read that. I believe they're going to make it so that users can opt-out.
Between my job, my freelancing and my webpage, my life is all over the Internet anyway, so doesn't really matter to me! ![]() |

Yes, but the opt out will probably just leave off some of the personal data, the basic stuff will be available unless members get into an uproar, imo.

I'm not impressed with facebook.....the only reason I've ever been there was to do research on students from the university I worked for in the Dean of Students office. Many students that got in trouble could be found on facebook and it gave us more insight into their lives and what they were doing for extra curricular activities

LOL I don't think the kids realize quite what they're doing. One of my nieces (who is an exceptionally attractive, 19-year-old girl) has some, ah, "provocative" I guess would be a good word, pix posted, and I suspect it is going to come back to bite her in the butt. They don't have the foresight to think of that.....but wait till she gets out of college and is looking for a job....
