You may recall during Labor Day 2016 I awoke from an afternoon nap to see a wild black snake on the pillow beside me. It is amazing that I didn't freak out but I am not afraid of non-venomous snakes and I got a real close look at that black snake to know what he was. He wasn't aggressive and when I sat up in bed he went the other way. Neither my son nor I are afraid of snakes so we named the snake Cuddles. We never saw him again so not sure where he went.

Today I woke up in bed with a ~6 inch lizard in bed with me. I tried to catch him but he was really fast. About fifteen minutes later I found a smaller lizard in my bed. My son tried twice to catch it but it got away.

I have at least half a dozen blankets in my bedroom because my mom always buys us blanket at Christmas. I made my bed with fresh blankets and took the others to the garage to wash later. (I must say I really love my washer and dryer that were donated to me for flood relief)

Anyway....... I don't know how to make my house less attractive to reptiles. Peppermint? Cinnamon? A friend suggested a sticky trap for mice but I don't want to hurt them, I just don't want them in my bed.

Is there any holes in your house? I think there may be their nest somewhere near your house, maybe in your garden?

I heard that cats sometimes would caught small lizards, since they are predators
Thanks for this!

Onion and garlic? That should keep away vampires too.
I've had probably a dozen wild snakes and several lizards in my farm house in the 28 years I've lived here. We pretty much ignore them but I do have two shovels inside my house in case a copperhead comes in.

There is no way I could seal all the entry holes in my house. The garage door has space under it when down and the door from the garage to living room also doesn't fit well.

A cat is a great idea. I've been wanting one anyway. I talked to one of my friends today and she is going to come help me sort and discard the clutter in my house. It isn't so much sweeping and mopping that I need but someone to help me sort books, clothes, toys and stuff that I am not using.

You must find all access points and close them off some how or it will
be very difficult to keep them out.
There are inexpensive ways to try and do that.
You can buy a door sweep that you attach by a couple of screws and it fills in
the opening at the bottom of your door. For garage doors you can buy black pipe
insulation and screw it to the bottom of the garage door so when it is closed it
will make a tight seal. These methods are cheap and easy.
Until you do something to block all the entry points they will keep coming in.
Also if you don't want to harm them then this is still your best bet.

Yes, it would be proper etiquette for the reptiles to rsvp so I know when to expect them.

Later yesterday evening I found a smaller lizard on a blanket in my bed. We tried to catch him with the grabber thing but he got away. They are FAST. A few minutes later I found him in the fold of another blanket in my bed.

I have given up. I'd rather not sleep with reptiles but I'm not going to lose (much) sleep over it. I did turn on my lantern I sleep with a couple of times during the night when I heard something but saw nothing.

It could be worse - it could be fleas.
