In case you didn't see the rescue this morning, a woman had to be removed from the pulley of a sky scraper crane this morning. She had not only climbed up the crane but somehow made her way down a cable to the pulley. The haven't said whether she was merely a thrill seeker, high/intoxicated, or suicidal.

Thing is, even if it was the latter, I find it hard to feel sorry for her. After all, she put the lives of two men - who likely have families counting on them - at significant risk. I just am having trouble sympathizing. I feel tremendous guilt for that.

I have had SI and have hurt myself, but never would I consider taking someone down with me. Call me unempathetic or not compassionate, but I am really quite very angry about this.

Yeah, even if she was suicidal, what she did was reckless and careless. At the risk of sounding cruel, if you're going to kill yourself, at least do it in a way that doesn't involve other people getting hurt or killed.

She was arrested. It sounds as though it was a case of intoxicated thrill seeking. In which case I think she should be fined at least a portion of the cost to get her down.

I saw that on the morning news. She seemed very calm for someone just sitting on a sliver of the crane. I wonder if they are going to hold her on a psych eval?

Oh probably.

I realize i have sounded waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harsh. I need to put this into context. I have friends and loved ones who are search and rescue volunteers. I have sat up at night terrified harm may come to them as a result of someone's - usually - intentional stupidity. Yes, I realize mental illness will have a factor but when someone is just being stupid it really gets my goat that there are people putting their on lives on the line to save them.

Speaking of harsh, I can imagine how bad this comment of mine may have sounded.

I'm not as insensitive to suicide as it may look there... I've been in that place so I have a lot of understanding for it.

Wow, that took some recklessness. Hope she shows more fear in jail.
