A friend is going to take me out for my birthday. Others might join in. Instead of enjoying this, I'm on a roller-coaster of emotions. Am I asking too much? Am I being insensitive to her busy schedule? Maybe nobody will join us.
I drive myself crazy. My friend wants to celebrate my birthday together. Why can't I just accept that and be ok with it? |

Are there methods you usually use to make yourself more comfortable in public? Like wearing clothes you find comfortable, or taking someone specific with you?
Maybe discuss the party with her - tell her where you would prefer to go. Some places might be more comfortable than others. Even if it becomes a stay-at-home tea party; those can be really fun if you go all out with them. ![]() Otherwise, try to go in without expectations and enjoy the small things like the lighting in the room and its decor, or your friend's conversation, or the food and drink - take something pleasant from it no matter how small. It's hard to counter the "what-if"s sometimes. You want things to go well and make sure everyone has a good time, if they show up. The thing is it's not up to you. Each person is responsible for their own happiness. This is a great gift from your friend.

I'm doing better. The turning point was when my friend asked what kind of birthday cake I want. Somehow that got me all happy.
