I grow Venus Flytraps and just bought some seeds. You have to be very careful where you buy flytrap seeds from as a lot of places give you the wrong sort of seeds or seeds that aren't viable.
Anyways, they should be here by next week, so I'm getting things ready to sow them when they get here and grow fly traps from seed for the first time. Wish me luck!! ![]()

Good luck! Keep us posted how they do, okay?
I love grubbing in the dirt with my plants. I have flowerbeds all around the house. Then there are eight more beds around the yard. Plus I have potted plants near my front porch and under one of my trees. A friend gave me an orchid for Christmas two years ago. I got myself three more this spring. |

I am taking another major stab at gardening this year---so far, so good. (Only flowers, at this point, no veg.)
Good luck with your insect-eating monster plants! What fun. |

Thanks. My current mature Venus Flytraps are eating up flies like no tomorrow right now. I've seen 4 fly carcasses so far.
FYI, when the trap is done digesting the flies (or whatever bug that is unfortunate enough to wind up in the trap), all that remains when it opens back up is a dried up husk of the fly. That's how I know the traps are working.

Today I potted some spider plants that had gone rogue in the garden. Frosts at the moment so some plants are getting rather burnt.

I received my seeds today and sowed them in what I like to call "nursery chambers". I basically took some cheap plastic tubs that once held nuts and poked some holes in both the lid and the bottom. I then put damp media in the tubs, in this case peat moss, and sprinkled the seeds on top. Then I used a small spray bottle to spray the seeds gently without washing them out, and hopefully activated the germination process.
I have to say, the seeds were absolutely teeny tiny! They weren't much bigger than a coma on this screen, and similarly shaped. I'm glad I bought them from a reputable dealer though. He has a lot of good reviews on his products and his seeds have a very high germination rate.

That they are tricky to germinate and raise is probably the reason I see so few of them around.

Today I rescued some empty plant pots from a bin that somebody else was throwing out. I think that makes me a gardener.

I like to plant my impatience along the path to my door but that's the only project I can keep up with.

Update on my Venus Flytrap seeds:
I've noticed a bit of mold growth on two spots where I suspect there may be seeds (the seeds are notably minuscule and hard to see against the peat moss). Yes, the seeds sit on the surface, unlike other seeds that grow via being buried in the soil, as that's how you properly propagate this plant. So, I left them to air out a bit. I normally keep them in small containers with lids to keep the humidity high in order to allow for successful germination/sprouting. After one afternoon of being aired out by means of taking the lids off, the mold is gone. Now, I just need to wait another few days and they should begin to show signs of beginning to sprout.

i don't consider myself a gardener but i do have plants that i've kept alive for over 10 years. Including a african violet that i'm currently the 4th or 5th generation, so since the mid 1800's, to keep going through cut's and pieces.
