I was wondering if there are any other parrot-owners out there. I love to connect with people who own birds-- when the topic of pets comes up it is most often about dogs or cats. I have three parrots-- a Quaker named Kiwi, a Maximillian Pionus named Mango, and a Meyers named Kenya. Kiwi is 2 1/2 years old and Kenya and Mango are about 1 1/2. I do not know what I would do without them. They are hysterically funny and each have a distinct personality. They have gotten me through some very rough times by making me laugh or helping me relax when I play with them or cuddle with them. I looooove my birds. Does anyone have parrots? Does anyone have parrots?Does anyone have parrots?

i used to have a rescued cockatiel and 2 parakeets who had been mistreated before i got them. i got the keets to a point where i could touch them, though they never sat on my finger or anything..... the tiel was outright hostile if you tried to touch him but i learned that if i sat next to his cage and talked & whistled to him, he would whistle and sing back....... we formed a fragile bond that way. i had to rehome him when i lost my home and it broke my heart, even though he went to good people. i've always wanted a parrot, maybe a senegal (i knew one once and he was super duper sweet) but can't afford one right now. for right now i have 2 rats, a mouse and a rabbit and they are wonderful to me. pets are amazing at lifting the spirit, i don't know how anyone can do without them......

At first when I read that you had a mouse I thought it said "moose" lol.

I agree, pets are amazing for the spirit.

Yesterday at the psychiatric hospital where I intern, the pet therapy people came--- they brought four dogs and it was so amazing to watch the patients just brighten up... to see the heatlh come out, the interactions... it was really awesome.

trying to picture a moose in my 1 br apartment....... and my bunny thinks the rats are annoying? imagine a moose! lol....

i think pet therapy is awesome..... someday when i have a dog i want him/her to be a therapy dog. for now..... i guess most people wouldnt want a therapy rat, huh? lol but they are therapeutic for me...... i love my little stinkers.

my cousin has a gorgeous cockatoo that he hardly pays attention to anymore......... i told him i wanted the bird and he said he'd sell him to me for a thousand dollars. if only i had donald trump as a benefactor that bird would be mine now..... poor thing is so sweet and needs more attention...

OMG - a maxi pi??? That is the bird I want (when I can evenutally afford to give one the proper care). Nobody I know has one and very few people I know have ever even heard of them. They are so cute!!! Previously I always wanted an African grey because I worked with a great one at the zoo and she was smart and sweet and wonderful... but I do my research before getting ANY pet and I found a Maximillian pionus parrot would be a better house pet for me. Tell me all about yours!!! I'm dying to hear first hand (and not just out of some book) just what kind of pets they make!!!
