Get any linux and start reading and watching tutorials on linux - programming - hacking. If nothing you will get tons of free software and have fun.

Just don't go about hacking government files....that doesn't go over too terribly well most of the time. Though, I've heard of stories where government hackers are often enlisted by said government to hack other governments....AFTER they've paid their debt to society via a jail sentence.

I learned off a site called SecurityOverride.org which had a bunch of hacking tutorials, combined with a few Linux virtual machines installed on my PC (thank goodness for fast gaming rigs!) that I hacked.

There are a number of ways to learn. As long as you don't go around hacking other people's stuff, you're good.

P.S also if you really want to learn, install TOR browser and search the dark web for hacking eBooks or other guides because they're everywhere there. A good way to delve in would be to go to the hidden wiki and find websites with the .onion domain.

Anyone familiar with some more cellular automata properties? I am collecting anything related to it:

When the internet began I thought "how wonderful, it will make people more connected and intelligent" what a dumb dumb I was....after watching the trends I've seen that for most it was the very opposite of what I hoped it would do. It gives the illusion of performance while proving impotence in the ends.

I sometimes feel the connection over the internet and sometimes I just see lots of people given freedom to act like jerks and say anything, safe behind the screen and being delusional about knowing someone just based on some lines of text they see...

It's all in how people use it and what their intentions are I guess. I'm just jaded so take what I say with a grain of salt....many are using it to truly correctly for sure.

My new method, for both managing my depression and not getting jaded, is to limit information intake and let it settle before another jump. I dont read news anymore, dont read specific user posts, and I try to be less assuming about what others are trying to say. Like focusing from the giant swarm of confusion into pieces that fit me...

You sound well adjusted. Sometimes I am too.....not right now, but sometimes. I'm glad you've found a system which serves your best interests. Just when I think I've found one, my mood goes haywire. So called "white hats" do it to test the system and get paid for it. Some others do it to learn more about computers and use it in another area of interest. Some just want to impress others...

To me, a true hacker is somebody who values knowledge above all else and would go to any length necessary to obtain the knowledge that they seek. They see rules and regulations as something that restricts their path to obtaining knowledge and thus, something to be circumvented.

Then there are people like me who learned how to hack primarily as a way to feel some sort of power in an information ruled world because of constant abuse by my mother and being bullied at school made me feel like a powerless, worthless nobody.

Not to mention, my mother had me so screwed up by telling me how I would always need somebody to take care of me and I would never be anything on my own and what not that I was utterly convinced that I would have to learn how to be a black hat hacker to take care of myself because I was unable to take care of myself or do things like everybody else.

So yeah, I was messed up. It's crazy how far I've grown. Perhaps now, I could call myself a true "hacker" based on my own definition of one because obtaining knowledge has once again become one of my top priorities in life.

I remember that in the Story of Steve Jobs, when he was younger, he'd use a device to hack into the analog phone system and do all sorts of crazy things. This was before personal home computing was a thing. He also made that more readily accessible too, but that's a different story.

Perhaps I may regret it one day. Perhaps it might benefit my future self significantly. Regardless, it's a chance that I'm willing to take.

I think that having at the very minimal, basic cyber security and hacking knowledge is becoming more and more essential as we move into a world dominated by information and technology. I think that those who don't have at least some hacking knowledge in 20-30 years will have little to no chance of competing in the world of the future. That is my hypothesis anyways.

Regardless if I'm right or not, the more challenging a task is and the more forbidden a reward, the more seductive the temptation is for me to complete the task.
