Remember when Yahoo! had a member directory and music message boards? I sure do and for some reason they decided to get rid of the member directory and music message boards.
Thanks for this!

There are a lot of things I remember from back then, but this isn't one of them. To be fair I didn't even have a computer back then. Lol

I do actually remember those things, but I was in grad school at the time, and so not concerned with making online friends or using message boards.

I miss " yahoo! tv".

watching episodes of new shows on their each week... lots of fun.

I also miss MSN groups.

used to be on some really good ones

the laughing house, the flying scotsman and penny's place

and I miss my message board about dinosaurs! (though towards the end of my time their, one of the members picked up on my DID, and so I stopped using it so much)

but all these were early 2000's- 2005 or so

oooo and the eminem site too!

which went the way of old abandoned forums- covered in spam

You might be wondering why I miss Yahoo! Member Directory. Well in 2006 I was going through a lot at the time and had a huge crush on Chuck Comeau-the drummer of Simple Plan. I couldn't find him on Yahoo! Member Directory or other Simple Plan members, so I tried my hand at finding Benji Madden from Good Charlotte. I successfully found him and people had a better chance at finding him than members of Simple Plan or other Good Charlotte members. I got to know him and thought of how cool he is. He even asked me to see a Broadway show with him and go to a party or two as a guest. I wanted to go, but sadly turned him down. For awhile people were impersonating celebrities on the Internet, so you never know who was the real deal or a phony. He did say so himself that he created that screen name to talk to fans, so I thought maybe it actually was him.

This year I saw that Simple Plan was going to play near me, so I got tickets and the VIP package-after party and autographs. David Desrosiers-the bassist-sat this tour out, because he is battling depression. I shared that story about meeting Benji on Yahoo! with Chuck from Simple Plan and he had the "I don't believe that" look on his face and tone in his voice, but he said to me and I quote "That's cool." The so-called "Benji" did ask if I wanted Joel's screen name and asked that I not give it to anyone, so I said ok. I figured that maybe this was indeed Benji after all.

To those of you who don't know what Yahoo! Member Directory is/was or Yahoo! Message Boards is/was, allow me to explain. Yahoo! Member Directory was a service provided by Yahoo! that allowed people to look up the user names of-well anyone-including celebrities. Because impersonating celebrities on the Internet was a trend in the early to mid-2000s, you never knew who was the real deal or a phony. You had to be wary of who you were talking to. Seeing them on a webcam or a picture or their voice was the best way to go about doing that.

Yahoo! Music Message Boards was a service where fans could talk about their favorite bands on their designated message boards-meaning the ones designated for that specific band. Sometimes it got crazy over there and it bought out the trolls. I'm not sure when Yahoo! decided to discontinue the member directory and music message boards, but I'm upset that they did. There were some good people on the message boards though.
Thanks for this!

I remember the yahoo message boards and the member directory. I also remember the chatrooms there and using them when I was barely a teenager (mostly when my mom and dad weren't home).

I used to go in the chatrooms anytime, but I always did it with a friend or two. Going into chatrooms with a friend or two was great!

Does anyone here remember PalTalk? I do!

PalTalk? Never heard of it... However, I did not get a PC until 2005/6, and I didn't get on social media sites at that time.

I remember the member directory and how easy it was to find people that you had lost touch with or were just curious about because of their reputation or interests. They probably scrubbed that because of privacy and cyber stalking which still goes on even today all over the internet. I've been cyber stalked before and in a way am glad that not just anybody can go poking around in my profile and use that info to track me down and harass me. Just my two cents.
What I really miss on Yahoo from the turn of the century is how cool and active the groups were and how mods of successful groups didn't put up with any spam or bs.
I once had a halfway decent video game group on Yahoo around that time period and it was a lot of fun but, it was also a lot of work and no one wanted to help out save for one guy who was really cool and new HTML code.
Later I became a mod on the largest emulation group there and had lots of work cut out for me and on top of that I had to do the usual moderator tasks and after a while it just got to be a babysitting job so, I had to step down. I swear I will never be a moderator on a group or forum again if I can help it.

I used Yahoo! Member Directory to look for people to chat with when I was bored, but Yahoo! Music Message Boards were fun. I used to spend a lot of time on the one for Simple Plan.
