I just bought something I've wanted for a long time, something that I wanted to treat myself to. A full 120 set of Polychromos colored pencils. I'm excited to get them!

That's awesome. I have often saved up to buy cool art supplies too. It's so much fun. I actually have a set of oil pastel crayons that I bought so I could better do oil portrait paintings, and I bought them months ago and haven't used them yet! I am hoping to try them this weekend some time.

It's important to treat ourselves sometimes. I spent $150 on a full set of Prismacolor markers (it's like 100 different shades) many years ago because I was doing a lot of illustration work. It was totally worth it. Some of my best work was with those markers INCLUDING the logo I now use for my consulting business.

Enjoy!

OMG! They came!!

When I was opening up the box the tin came in, and saw the tin for the first time, all pristine and shrink wrapped, I couldn't help but sing like a shaft of heavenly light had fallen upon the tin accompanied by the singing of a choir of angels.

I almost didn't want to take the shrink wrap off of the tin because it was that breathtaking. However, I didn't buy these beauties to sit around a collect dust, so I eagerly tore the wrap off. It was then that I was inundated with the sweet smell of the Cedar the pencils were made out of. I never knew these pencils smelled so damn good!

I quickly got to securely putting my new acquisitions in my trusty large distressed brown leather Global Art pencil case. It was a bit of a tight fit, but all 120 of them are now securely held in place within the confines of this, my favorite pencil case.

I have yet to actually try them out, as I had to get ready for work shortly after opening them, but now that I'm done with work, it's time to take these puppies out for a drive!

Post us a pic of your first work with them! You've inspired me. I'm going to whip out my new (well, bought them 5 months ago but didn't use them yet) oil pastels and try a few drawings....Going to have to get one of my doggos to pose.

I totally will. I'm breaking my pencils in my coloring in a page from my favorite coloring book, the "Ultimate Coloring Book Treasury". It's still a work in progress but I will definitely post it on here when I'm done.

Well, I'm a little irritated. These pencils were supposed to be oil pastels, and yet, they are not. They are regular pastels...means, like chalk or charcoal. Very frustrating, because I was intending to use them to help prep my drawings before oil painting. Anyways, I did do a portrait with them tonight. I'm pretty rusty with my proportions and "seeing" skills, but it's not too terrible:
