Did you ever had a pen pal?
What is it like to have a pen pal -- foreign or in your own homeland -- when you have a Schizophrenia or other mental health problems?

Yes. In my early teens.
It had helped me to connect with people who were different than me; hence helping my depression.

I wanted a pen pal when I was a kid but, just never got around to trying it out.
I don't right with a pen hardly any more either. I prefer a keyboard.
I'll be an email pal with you, shattered sanity.
I think you're really cool anyway.

I was part of an online knitting group that had a feature where you could find penpals to write actual pen and paper letters to each other. I tried that for a few months with two different people at once, but it got to the point where I just could keep up, and dropped off communications all together.

It was actually sort of neat sending off letters like that. Using stamps and envelopes felt natural, albeit a bit old fashioned. Then again, when I was in elementary school, they taught me the basics of letter writing in that fashion. Something I don't think is done anymore. Now most communications are done via the internet.

Heh, I even remember when emails where the hot new thing, and everyone was all excited about getting mail instantly for the first time ever. Then came the even more instantaneous form of communication known as IMing. Now everyone just texts or calls each other. Emails are still done, but only by the older generations. My 89 year old grandma can email, and use Facebook, believe it or not, but still can't for the life of her remember to keep her cell phone on enough to call or receive calls, let alone understand how to text.

I have had several pen pals for a number of years now. One is across the country while the other in Eastern Europe. I actually put pen to paper regularly; at times everyday. I will save up the letters and mail them as a package.

I am a lover of paper - any paper so I often write on funny things. One of my favourites is paper I tear off as I walk past the flower wrapping station at my grocery store. I write on pastry bags from Starbucks. I write on the reverse sides of cigarette foil, I... um, er, have even written on (unused of course) protective toilet seat covers. You got it. If it is paper, I've likely used it.

I had a pen pal as a kid. It was through school and was awesome. Then in grade 9 my best friend moved away and we wrote letters to each other all the time talking about school and boys. Lol.

I had a pen pal from England while I was in high school. We both joined the military in our respective countries and I haven't heard from him since.

I adopted a soldier eight years ago that was stationed in Afghanistan. Normally after the soldier comes home they no longer have a need for correspondence and the communication discontinues but this particular soldier and I still write frequently.

There are many penpal sites for military men/women that need support!! If u have the spare cash it is also fun to send them packages. A good majority of them do not have access to the internet, so snail mail is still used and it is a good moral booster for them to receive mail, cards and packages on a regular basis.

I had a pen pal when I was in grade school and I STILL have her letters! It was so cool to read them again too.

I don't have penpals anymore, even through email, because I am absolutely horrible at maintaining it, and keeping in contact. I don't know if that has anythind to do with being bipolar or not. Might be somthing to think about.
