I’m stealing another good question from the game room.

Have you ever met a celebrity or a famous person?

I met Jeff Bridges at a fundraiser (our tables were paid for by the owner of a company I used to work for). I got to take my picture with him by a professional photographer. It was set up like a red carpet scene. Jeff Bridges put his arm around me and put his head against mine for the photo. He is so nice! He was very warm when he greeted me too

What is your story?

Cool!

Me, not exactly. I am Facebook friends with, and have emailed back and forth with the director of one of my favorite movies. She is super nice and was encouraging to me during a time when I needed it. It meant a lot to me in a very deep way.

I was profoundly inspired by Joan Baez when I was growing up. When I was 23 she came to a bookstore in my city to do a book signing, so I went to meet her. She was absolutely delightful! She took my toddler daughter into her arms and was playing with her...it was a wonderful experience to meet Joan B.

I met both my favorite actors/celebrities(Hugh Laurie and a primarily stage actor who played Stannis on Game of Thrones for ex).

Hugh I met after a concert he held in my city. In fact I've seen him in concert 3 times total, first in Germany twice but then I didn't get to meet him. After the concert he had in Bucharest, I waited with a few others and he came out and talked to each and every person, signed stuff and took pics with everyone, really took his time. He is a great guy.

The other actor I actually got to spend a bit of time with along with a friend of mine when we went to see him on stage. We happened to randomly meet him in a more private, setting and then spent a bit of time with him after a matinee. He and his wife are absolutely wonderful, very intelligent, very interesting, open minded, kind people, the kind that sadly don't exist much in my country so just on a personal level for me it was amazing to have the opportunity to interact with them.

So yeah, my favorites didn't disappoint, on the contrary. It's also true that for me it's more about people I can admire as humans not just as artists so I was pretty certain I would have a good experience meeting them for that reason.

Other than this I briefly met Ian McKellen after a play, saw Andrew Garfield also after a play and met some actors at my local comic-con, like Charles Dance, John Noble, Jason Momoa, etc.

Dalai Lama - my father and I shared an elevator ride with him. Dad is an Anglican priest so the two of them joked about being in the same line of business, haha. We got to the bottom and when the doors opened at the lobby we were met with a swarm of camera toting paparazzi. The Dalai Lama went one way and we the other. We were followed by several of the camera people until they realised we were no one special.

I met ( briefly} Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel in Whistler B.C while my son's hockey team had a tournement. Their son was playing on the opposing team!
Very nice people and down to earth.

I did not "meet" him but was in the same room for a while with Adlai Stevenson. He was shorter than I expected, and seemed rather peeved about something.

I've also seen William Proxmire out running once or twice.

J. Robert Oppenheimer. Again, did not "meet". Just in the same place.

Before your time, probably, for all of them.

The last time I saw the Descendents on tour, I touched Milo's arm and cried like a complete moron. That man is a legend. Hopefully when I'm 50-something, I'll be as half as cool as he is.

My fiancé and I also met a small(ish)-time group of ladies from Bad Cop/Bad Cop when they did their UK tour a couple of years back. Now they tour with the likes of NOFX and bands of a similar calibre, so they've come a long way and should be proud. The lead, Stacey Dee, recently found herself in hospital before an acoustic gig when her appendix freaked out and gave her sepsis. Don't think she's had it removed yet, and I'm quietly confident that she didn't have enough money to cover the cost of her surgery and hospital treatment because they held a fundraiser.

Walking around town with a t-shirt that says 'STACEY F****ING DEE' on it in giant letters gets me a few odd glances.

Just a few years ago I met Exene Cervenka from the band X. She came into the cafe were I worked. Totally cool lady, very down to earth, great sense of humor, and a really good listener. We talked about the punk scene way back when. She was dressed adorably. I was delighted to have met her.

I bumped on Jim Carter (Mr. Carson from Downton Abbey) in London, just walking on a high street actually in a neighborhood he lives. I kind of embarassed myself running behind him making sure it’s him. Lol I think he saw me but kept walking. He is very good looking in real life BTW

I sat next to Carly Simon in a bistro in NY. I didn't want to be a pest so when she sat down with her party, I just said "hello".....stunning woman, about 6', very attractive in person. I was with an old girlfriend. My mom hated her (my old girlfriend, that is).

My only experience with a celebrity also happens to be one of the most funniest moments of my life. No joke, back in 1998, I saw Woody Harrelson rolling around on rollerblades smoking a doobie in Washington Square Park. He was TOTALLY baked and was being followed by a crowd in a huge puff of smoke.

The FUNNY part is, when he rolled in my direction and I begged him for his autograph, I literally had NOTHING for him to write on. I looked on a nearby bench and saw a copy of the "Village Voice," (a trendy hipster newspaper dedicated to the infamous "Village NYC" crowd), and boy that cover didn't disappoint!! Hopefully the mods won't take this down, but THIS is what Woody Harrelson signed for me and we both had such a laugh!

I was scheduled on a flight out of Denver (this was several years ago, now, over 20) and ended-up stranded there (along with then-manfriend) while a blizzard essentially stopped all traffic in and out of the airport. There, in the terminal with us, was a slightly lost-looking Doc Severinsen---the head of Johnny Carson's old band on the Tonight Show. What was he doing mingling with the great unwashed?, I wondered. Shouldn't he be on a private plane, or in the First Class lounge? But I guess he was looking for any way to make his next appearance, however he could get there, like so many other people were doing, that day.

He went to a few counters, and it looked like he finally got his wish---when he passed manfriend and me, and gave me a great, warm smile---seeming to bless us as a couple since we were standing so close and saying our goodbyes (because I still thought I might fly out that afternoon). What a nice human being, so normal and down-to-earth. And he looked so handsome! He wasn't wearing the brash sort of outfits he wore on TV---he looked very much like any business traveller in his trenchcoat and briefcase.

It was nice, on that day, to be visible.

Thanks for this!

I met Kenny Loggins when I was going to England for my second military move. He and his partner were very nice.

I also met Penn & Teller after their Las Vegas show. Teller actually does talk--he was amused about how all the people were trying to figure out how their cell phone cameras work so they could get a picture with him.
Thanks for this!

What a terrific encounter! And how strange...your story reminded me...many years ago (about 1997 ??) I was in line at my local natural foods co-op and Woody Harrelson was in line in front of me. He was just really normal, nice to the cashier, kind of quiet and soft-spoken, actually.

I remembered 2 more. I had the wonderful opportunity to see Allen Ginsberg lecture, play music, and chant in a university town near to where I live. He was delightful. A real comedian, to my surprise. My husband and I spoke with him after the performance; he was so focused and very warm. We talked with him about Jack Kerouac and AG's comment was, "Jack was a great, great, great man".

Another one...I was in downtown Los Angeles, sitting at an outdoor table eating lunch. I happened to be at a restaurant next to the building that houses the Screen Actor's Guild. A tiny bright-red sports car drove up near the curb, stopped, and some guy ran out from somewhere to drive the car into a parking garage. A woman came quite literally BOUNCING out of the car, shrieking and laughing, waving at, then hugging a man who had come from the SAG to greet her. She was an electric person, just radiated! It was Drew Barrymore.

Oh wow Laurie, what amazing encounters you had!! Isn't it amazing about Woody Harrelson though? He literally was laughing and giggling as much as I was when he signed that ridiculous thing for me! It was so unreal how down to earth and nice he was, (well maybe it coulda been that he was high but still!!)....and as for Drew Barrymore, WOW!!! You know I could totally see her doing that, I love her SO much, she just looks like such a FUN person!

Back in the early 1980's I met Charlie Daniels at an autograph signing in a record store. I didn't get a photo with him but I had a good 35 mm camera and got a good pose from him. He was very nice, of course.
