If any of you artists had success in selling art in some free art sites, let me know.

I know fine art America and deviant art are good sites but you have to do your own marketing as there are millions of paintings and other artworks there plus you need to be really good at producing decorative art that people actually want on their walls.

I had a successful etsy shop for a couple of years. It's not totally free, but it's very low-cost. A few dollars per month.

That's a perfect reply and indeed i know about those 2 sites, they are like oceans. Now when you talk about marketing, which are the best sites to advertise ?

If you want to advertise for free I would set up an Instagram account and start posting your art with some frequency, there is a metric for getting followers usually by following them. My art isnt advanced enough to sell really so I haven’t bothered but if I ever got serious that’s what I would do. One of the nice things about fine art America is you can sell the original and if you pay them some fee you can actually set up your own web page, one of the dangers of linking to a big site is people might see other art they like more and buy it instead so it’s good to have your own site. So basically my advice is to use social media to your advantage post your art on all the major sites, I follow a few artists even on Facebook and have bought prints and one original.

I have had luck with Etsy.

I am unsure if it is you I had this conversation with previously but this applies to anyone wishing to sell art. It must be 100% your own.

Most of my sales come from self marketing. I have donated art to several charity silent auction fundraisers for example and attached my business card on the back. This has resulted in commissions and requests for additional pieces.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
