I know this is really trivial but I am hoping someone has an idea or two about this. Friends, I am headed out camping and for the first time taking a dog. While not aggressive he is rather highly reactive. I need some way of distracting him for long periods of time at the campsite; something that will best keep his attention from people and dogs passing by. I was wondering if some sort of long lasting treat might be recommended. Ideas? Thanks muchly.

I don't have a dog... but I've heard of those toys (Kong? maybe?) that are like puzzles for dogs. You put a treat inside and twist the pieces, and the dog plays with it, chews it, manipulates it, etc while trying to get the treat out (and then is rewarded with the treat, of course, when successful!)

Here's an article that talks about the Kong (which doesn't look like what I imagined at all!) and a couple other similar toys:

You could also try to tire him out while you're there with hikes, swimming, fetch, etc. That might help him be a little more chill?

Have fun!

(Edited to fix broken link - sorry!)

thx! I am off to a big pet and feed store today and I will look for one of these. He does have a kong though which I fill with treats, dog food, and peanut butter but it only lasts perhaps 10-15 minutes. Perhaps one of these puzzles you have mentioned will be the solution.
