There is a big trend taking over in the UK at the moment where people paint rocks and stones, in many different designs, colours and quotes. They then varnish the rocks and hide them for someone to find. Someone finds the rock, shares it on your local FB group (or whatever FB group is tagged on the bottom of the rock) and rehide it or can keep it.

I imagine it to be a good form of art therapy and distraction.

Have you guys ever tried this or have joined your local ‘rock’ group?
Thanks for this!

Oh that's so cute! I had no idea this was a "trend" but in the spring I painted ladybirds (ladybugs in American English) on stones with a 5yo girl and I absolutely loved it!!!

Yes. I've belonged to my local Kindness Rocks group for a year. In my town, I created a "fairy door", which has become quite popular. On the Creativity board I've posted some pics of rocks I've painted. Here are a few more:

I actually found the perfect rock to paint into an owl that I found on Pinterest. I had seen the owl then when I found the PERFECT rock.....but it is sitting in my craft pile of to do things. Too many other higher priority things in life right now.

What do you paint with? I mean what kind of colours? I used markers but I like yours more.

I use acrylic paint & normal art brushes especially when doing fine lines & detail work

I use craft acrylics that I purchase in craft or art supply stores (or online from Amazon). They are very inexpensive and last a long, long time. (Of course, more expensive acrylics are available, too). There are hundreds of colors, and you can mix your own colors, too.
The higher the quality of brushes, the more rewarding it will be to use them.

I also use Posca paint pens. Only Posca. There are just no other paint pens that work as well, or last as long.

I prefer to use primer - Liquitex Gesso (either white or clear, depending upon the rock and the result I want).

To seal the rock I use a coat of Mod Podge glossy (because it doesn't smear colors). When that dries I do a couple of coats of Liquitex High Gloss varnish - makes the rocks very shiny and weather-resistant.

Oh - and all sorts of glitter is fun and make the images really special!

So, this is my method. Everyone experiments and uses what works for them.
