So, yeah. I had cataract surgery on both eyes and — as if by magic — I could see each leaf on trees hundreds of yards away! But I needed reading glasses. +2.50. Same today as eight years ago.

Long story sort of short: I had a friend who owned an optical lab and he would send me crazy frames with the +2.50 lenses. But he sold the lab (and retired) so I was left to fend for myself.

First, I discovered the ‘eyebobs’ brand at Orvis. Then in years that followed I bought Ray-Bans, Shuron Ronsir’s (very early 1960’s faves), and when Warby Parker came on the scene, I bought so many frames that I really shamed myself.

But, well, here’s the deal:

When I first started plunging my face into the ground, due to sudden BP drops, I started damaging (sometimes destroying) those oh-so-expensive reading glasses. None of the companies — except for eyebobs — offered any repair service. The weird thing was... the eyebobs frames were seldom damaged. So...

...I find that I’m now an eyebobs snob. At $89-per-pair, they’re the least expensive and they have reasonable repairs, if needed. They have way-cool frames in way-cool colors and terrific lenses.

Anyone else have a fetish for cool readers? I have a pair of ‘crystal-clear,’ a pair of ‘crystal red’ and a pair of teal-front-with-tortoise-temples arriving Monday. I can’t wait!

I wear prescription glasses so since I have glasses on my face all day not just reading (especially at work) I am quite vain about how they look.

My current frames are Prada. Yes I am vain. Lol I like my glasses but they aren’t my favorite, I feel that frames turned out a bit too dark for my face, they are dark blue with other tints mixed.

My previous frames were my all time favorite, they were Gucci, tortoise with gold and brown/cream, unfortunately they stopped making that particular style when I needed new glasses, I’d likely get the same style again.

I do want prescription sun glasses too but can’t really justify the cost.

So yeah I am with you on this.

When I wore contact lenses I had to use readers. And yes - I was choosy about frames. I had several; strangely, cannot recall from where I ordered them...Amazon, perhaps? I had 3 patterned glasses. Oh! I remember where I purchased one pair - in Paris, where I somehow lost my readers while visiting the Musee d'Orsay.

Then getting the proper prescription for contact lenses became a hassle beyond the beyonds. Opted for glasses. Due to my exceedingly defective eyesight, I am stuck with glasses. Boring. Expensive (nearly $500 for my outrageous prescription.)

I have worn glasses since 1966. I became very picky in that I always wanted rimless on the bottom.....but this last time I invested in the titanium totally rimless glasses & love them. They have the literal flexibility I need as the very first thing I did to them was get them caught & pulled off my face by a branch I was trimming back at the edge of my woods. Nothing bent, nothing broken.

I just don't like frames blocking my view. Expensive.....yes.....worth it to me.....yes!!!!

My coolest glasses came from Amazon. I paid 11.00 for three pair. I get tons of compliments on them. Since I cannot wear progressives I also have glasses for reading so I always have two pair of glasses with me all the time. Initially I bought prescription glasses at a Walmart and paid big $$$ even there I found readers at Walgreens I got to tide me over worked just as well and say cheaper. I could easily have 15 of each pair for me for the price I paid for prescription.

I like my glasses they are modified peabody's , torti shell. Back when I used readers I had all kinds of styles my favorite were hand painted. Now I have Rx and had to find one style to go with everything cause I wear them all day everyday. I really need a new pair but don't want to give up the pair I have.

My last pair of RX glasses I broke the ear piece off & they couldn't repair them & I didn't have money for a new eye test & glasses.... so I got creative.

First I glued the ear piece back on with super glue. I thought that might not hold when I went zip lining so I decided then to wrap it also with tape. It actually held on & off for about a year but I still had some large expenses to pay off before I could afford glasses.....so that was when I really got creative. I took floral wire & wire wrapped the ear piece to the glasses. I should have been even more creative & done both sides even the non-broken one so they would look like a new style instead if just REPAIRED broken glasses. Ah well last spring after about 3 years of wearing them repaired I was finally able to get a new pair & an eye exam too. These will have to last another 10 years....hope they do.
