We just had Thanksgiving, so what exactly is "Giving Tuesday"? Makes no sense to me.

It's supposed to be a day to donate to charity.

I think of it more as a nonprofit thing than a charity thing, even though charities tend to be nonprofits.
(There's also Small Business Saturday.) It's just a fundraising idea for nonprofits to try to get in on the money going around the holidays. |

I know the day has passed, but I've checked non-profits & The Salvation Army gives the largest percentage of donations straight to those in need. Some charities have high overhead costs (people getting salaries & such), so a much smaller percentage goes directly to the needy. The holiday bell ringers are out, so if you can afford it, please know they do a good job helping folks out of tough spaces.

Although some organizations take high overhead costs, we are often better with those people involving themselves in a cause they believe in than if they put their efforts elsewhere. Simply raising awareness and providing information and volunteer opportinuties can make all the difference. One reason to donate on Giving Tuesday, in addition to other times throughout the year, is that organizations often find "matching gifts" at this time.
It does seem silly that this is so soon after Thanksgiving. Did we not spend all those efforts on a feast to give Thanks? ![]() |

I think it's supposed to be like, you just gave thanks for everything you have. Now it's time to remember all of those who don't have as much to be thankful for.
