I have never posted here much so I would not notice if this place is dying. But others are. I began posting in the MSN avoidant forum over a decade ago. It had to move twice and ended up on bigtent - that is dying at the end of this year. POOF! Gone. No one has been there is a year anyway. But I looked and have many old posts there. I tried to contact the mod - I nicknamed her Flipper. Nothing. Flipper, where are you?

When I was working at Oracle we tried maintaining a technical support forum on CompuServe... 25 years ago. The medium may be judged as anachronistic compared to modern-day social media platforms. I don't know this for sure, as I don't frequent modern-day media platforms. Furthermore, in the interest of full disclosure, I am not nor have I ever been Flipper.

In the past I was active on two forums. Both are long gone. I've always enjoyed the forum concept and don't understand why it isn't as popular as it used to be. I use social media somewhat, but social media seems superficial, whereas forums are more in-depth.

Yes.. I miss them. I noticed a lot of those people go to facebook groups but imho that is because they want to want to compose more than two lines. I want to have a conversation.. maybe one that goes on for three paragraphs. I used to look forward to seeing responses.. now often I can't get one. This is one of the few boards with activity.

Do you guys know of any others?

This is the Internet. We keep forgetting that it is an arm of the US Government. They (obviously) don't want you making friends and communicating and establishing a kind of online normalcy.

If you sit at your puter or stare at your phone and somehow you just don't feel right, it's because the machine is playing with you. The things it does like slow down, refuse to let you dim the light the screen gives off so you can get to bed earlier, mysteriously dial "random" people in your contact list so they can eavesdrop on you, send your emails to unintended recipients, spam-call you on Sunday morning on and on...

The people who run it are the same class of people who chemical-bombed Vietnam. THEY have control of the internet, not the people who use it. It is a machine designed for their ends, not ours.

The thing to do is keep your eyes and ears open for the influence modern propaganda has on your life...it's nothing like what the Nazis had going all those years ago, it's much more powerful...it's something to do every day for the rest of your life.

They don't put up satellites and lay ocean cables because they want you to be happy...

I have seriously thought that sometimes. And you notice how certain government approved sites like facebook or reddit seem to have thriving communities but no place else?

Pardon my ignorance but what is reddit?

As to the death of online forums maybe they all go through cycles. Some survive some don't. People go to what works for them and it isnt always static. I have seen a few people come and go in this forum over the years. People will get more out of them if they engage with others and contribute.

And then again there is life off the computer.

I can remember when forums were a lot more popular and active

their are 2 that spring to mind- a harry potter one and an eminem one, both really active a few years ago- but now just dead, the administrators didn't close them or anything (though the harry potter one won't allow new accounts)

I think probably my favorite forum memory was being on one for disney, in fact- that one was so busy, they disabled the " who is online", section- because their were so many at once it would have slowed it down

but now it's dead. it's hard to believe, but it is

also some off topic ones have some pretty crazy statistics- out of 2000 members on one, only 20 of them are actually active now

I think social media does have a part to play in the decline in forum popularity- but maybe it's just an old way of doing things

their's so many means of comunication, why use a forum.. that kind of thing

If there's one type of forums that need to be kept going, it's mental health forums. Personally, I don't put anything mental health related up on facebook just in case someone I know in real life sees it

Due to an imho over-broad social media policy for my workplace, I actually have several fake accounts on social media for all my "controversial" statements.

No it is hard work. I have no idea why it is popular other than its creator was a controversial figure. I have also felt like sometimes the *the government industrial complex* likes to shuttle people to particular websites because those are ones that are easy for them to monitor. Otherwise I have never understood it.

I am not social networking savvy or even internet savvy. I found psy central by good fortune a few years back and stuck with it. I am on G+ which will be closing in the Spring and dont know what I will do after that. Facebook and something called mewi or is it mewee or... never mind I can not see myself putting too much into those.
When I get my website off the ground I will put effort into that.
Anyway, if we keep using psy-central we will always have a place to call if we are having a bad day.

Keep well everyone.

I love Reddit. But I don’t post on there. I just read certain subs or communities or whatever they are called. PC is the only forum I post on.

High Five piggy momma.

Emily Fox Seaton - I waste way too much time on Facebook not that I use it to communicate with anybody else. I have been sucked in by Farmville 2.

PC is the only forum that I am interested in and that I can give to others and learn.

I checked. Big Tent is gone. Just like they said - it died with 2018. All those posts by people with avpd are gone. It's like the death of history.

I only hope mental health forums won’t die, at least, the ones I still haven’t been kicked out, because it’s the only place I dare to post. I don’t dare to have Facebook or any other mass social platforms.
I feel safer here. Among lunatics lol!

I see what you mean, Personality disorders place have very few people posting with the exception of bpd forum. The reason may be that there are few people who have the personality disorders. Most of the population used to have traits of one or another disorder but they can’t be labelled with the disorder itself.

I talk to you about my situation. I don’t have a personality disorder. My last diagnosis was Personality group C. But, I’m not a pure avoidant or dependent or obsessive personality disorders. I have traits of all these three disorders. I don’t belong to any of them in real since they are traits. I identify myself with social anxiety and depression that I know for sure they are illnesses I have.
