We already have a thread for a New Year's Eve party. Seems like many of us are going to "see" the New Year in by sleeping through it.
New Year's Eve has never been a big deal for me. I'm more a New Year's Day person. I like to have a nice quiet day resting up from all the stuff leading up to the holidays and the aftermath. I don't make new year resolutions, but I do reflect on the year past and the one coming up. What are your plans for New Year's Day? Some areas, countries have traditional New Year's Day dishes for dinner. I grew up around Detroit and Chicago. I don't remember any traditional dishes from my childhood. New Year's Day was a huge hangover day for the adults in my family. Any kind of celebration entailed getting poo-faced drunk in our house. ![]() Now I live in the south. My tradition for years has been to fix black eye peas for New Year's. What kind of food is traditional where you are? |

usually for me it's,
" what ever food is left from christmas mixed up on a plate", so maybe some party food, lleft over turkey, etc this year however I'm having chicken fingers- I am tired of christmas this year I don't really have plans.. probably just watch a movie and try not to be too depressed about the fact that my life is heading in totally the wrong direction. it's the same every year, I just get really depressed about it |

Growing up in So Calif the huge thing on New Years day was the Rose Parade. Many times we just took our sleeping bags & crashed on the sidewalk to stake our space claim so we could get a good front row view in the morning. I also volunteered several years decorating the floats. That was exciting & basically was the New Years project.
The rest of the time it was going to sleep at midnight to get up early to watch the parade on TV. Since coming here my ballroom dance group likes to put together a ballroom dance night on New Years eve. They are a great group to bring in the new year with. Growing up my mom always made tea rolls for breakfast new years day...sweet bisquit dough rolled out, covered with melted butter & covered with cinnamon sugar then rolled up, cut & baked in muffin pans. I treat myself to that if I feel like baking even now. Anything else during the day is mostly grazing on whatever is available. Living alone I justvdon't have any traditions.

Eskie, working on a float for the Rose Bowl parade sounds like fun. I can't dance with a hoot, but your ball room dance group's sounds fun.

Growing up the folks had parties that were just the adults either they went out or partied in the basement and us kids had the tv. We'd "mix" cocktails by pouring different mixes ( we didn't dare touch the alcohol or we'd have got the broom) and food coloring together and watched **** Clark's ( was that his name?) New Year's Eve countdown. Then in the morning we'd watch the parade. The rest of the day we'd play outside as the dads watched football and the moms took over the kitchen. Nobody ever got really drunk it was all very polite. Now I'll flip back and forth between the shows on tv and at midnight tell mum happy new year and go to bed then in the morning watch the parade. My only social stuff will be here on PC

No major dishes really come to mind thinking back on New Year's. When I was younger my parents typically worked -mom was a bartender, dad a bouncer $$$$ and I either had a sitter or would go to my grandparents for the night or weekend. I want to say it was typically a night to eat junk food and/or appetizer type dishes mainly and/or pizza. It's normally so stinking cold outside that going out isn't desirable.

We didn't eat anything special either, although black-eyed peas and I think maybe collards are touted where I live as what to eat to have a good year.

Okay, seems like others don't have much in the way of traditional food to eat. I'm going to put on a big ole post of black eyes and another of rice for any who want some. Sorry, no collards. Never developed a taste for them. Feel free to provide some if you want. (Trav, black eye peas and rice cooked together is called hoppin' John in your neck of the woods.)
There's a fire in the fireplace. We have magical TVs that don't make too much noise so those who want to watch different football games, movies or parades can without interference from others. Feel free to bring stuff to snack on while watching. There are big comfy chairs off in the corner for those who want to curl up and read. Journaling materials for those who want. And there's a conversation area for those who want to chat with friends. There are plenty of hot and cold beverages for all. Help yourself. |

Am dragging my behind today. The neighbors kept me up most of the night with wild parties.
Black eyes are on cooking. Help yourself when you want. Plenty of hot and cold drinks available for all. Healing brought snacks. Come on in and make yourself comfortable. ![]() |

I’m with you and I enjoy relaxing and reflecting on New Year’s Day. I find New Year’s Day to be more enjoyable because I’m always happy to finally be done with the holidays.

Slept late. Woke up after a very strange dream. My significant other made me breakfast and a nice pot of coffee which was very comforting. Now I'm working on chores and getting my home ship-shape before I catch up with an old friend later. Happy New Year folks
