Hello,
I am currently making a rather large fictional universe on a made up planet and I’m having an issue coming up with a reasonable origin story for a certain part of my land. It is covered in volcanic terrain, lava, harsh rocky surfaces, a volcano, and a lot of burned vegetation/plant life. There are multiple different mutated creatures and a fireproof intelligent species that live there. It is only part of this map I have created (surrounded by desert) and originally I had thought of a meteor shower hitting the area (making it into what it is) but realized that doesn’t make any sense. Anyone have ideas?

Volcanoes come from underground this could happen spontaneously anywhere.

Have you researched volcanoes and plate tectonics? Maybe understanding a little about the dynamics might help?
I think you have some good ideas and imagery.

It could be due to a very rare occurrence in nature where a large hole gradually opens up in the atmosphere in one spot, allowing great heat and radiation from your planets sun to bombard that region over the millenia - causing constant volcanoes, fire, and some of the creatures to evolve fireproof skins, heh.

It takes place in CE era, kind of like a Middle Earth story where it has multiple species and isn’t technologically advanced. I just made a species that can terraform land over time. I’ve got the solution, thank you guys
