I got my old job back yesterday. I talked to my boss and he was thrilled to take me back. He mentioned how he thought I was a hard worker and worth giving a second chance too.....the thing is.......well, he drug tested me, a saliva test. He has me working tomorrow before he even sends the test off. I'm hoping (crossing fingers) that he doesn't send all tests and doesn't send mine by some chance because I have been smoking pot recently. I smoked some pot with my hippy mother on her 40th birthday the day before he tested me....jeez.

I fear that he gave me this second chance then it'll end up biting him in the *** because I have marijuana in my system. I fear since I'm working before the results that I'll be called back to the office and fired on the spot...embarrassed and ashamed. Does every job send every drug test....or is it random tests?

If your boss is the owner then maybe he won't send it but I imagine if he works for a company that does drug testing then it will be sent. I think if he was "on his own" he wouldn't have bothered if he wanted you back but he probably "had" to and your file, etc. will have the results and things will happen like you think?

You could be pro-active and go talk to him, tell him what happened, see if there are any exceptions, etc.?

how long has it been since you smoked? if youre not a regular smoker its out of your system after just a couple days. pot is stored in your adipose tissue, so if youre skinny it gets out faster. and i dont think it shows up in your saliva? i think he would have had to do a urine test but im not sure on that one.

i agree with perna. explain the situation and what happened and tell him that its a one time thing and that you wont do it while you work there. maybe hell give you another test in a couple days.

Hmm. This brand of oral tester:

says one can read it on-site (like a pregnancy tester :-) Do you know if your kind of readable by your boss or someone at work?

heres what can happen if you arent honest:

my ex was in alcohol counseling. this kid named mike was in there but also for narcotics and alcohol. they did random drug testing at the counseling sessions and he had relapsed and smoked pot a few days before that. well, instead of doing the normal thing and getting someone elses urine he took water and put a tea bag in it to make it look yellow lol. they used pH strips that are meant for human urine. so when they stuck it in tea it showed up that he was on narcotics, opium, lsd... all kinds of stuff! he explained it to his sponsor and he was fine.

moral of the story, the lie is always worse than the crime. any understanding person is going to understand a smoke up on a birthday.

good luck. (sorry, i just forgot about that story til now)
